FrontStreet Coffee - Nicaragua Vera Sachi Washed Introduction
Nicaragua is mainly divided into four major coffee producing regions - Nueva Segovias, Matagalpa/Jinotega, Boaco, and the Pacific Coast region.
The Nueva Segovia region has the highest cultivation altitude, ranging from approximately 1,450 to 2,100 meters, producing the highest grade S.H.B. (Strictly Hard Beans) coffee. The widespread volcanic ash soil and shade-growing methods yield high-quality Nicaraguan coffee with a smooth flavor profile.
Nicaraguan coffee beans are among the largest of all coffee varieties, with the Maragogype "elephant beans" being particularly distinctive. Maragogype beans are larger than regular coffee beans, commonly known as elephant beans, and possess a unique special aroma with a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. Coffee trees in the Matagalpa region are of the ancient Bourbon variety, typically grown on mountain slopes at altitudes of 1,200-1,500 meters. The region has been recognized by OCIA (Organic Crop Improvement Association) as producing high-altitude excellent organic coffee.
Nicaraguan coffee has been somewhat overlooked in recent years, and Nicaraguan coffee is rarely seen. In fact, Nicaragua's growing conditions are no less favorable than those of other Central American countries. The coffee produced is characterized by its refreshing and balanced taste. Surprisingly, coffee from high-altitude regions exhibits remarkable characteristics: at light roast - it presents a smooth sweet and sour taste with clean, bright fruit aromas; at medium roast - it reveals rich floral notes with a smooth texture; at medium-dark roast - it emits nutty aromas with a sweet, full-bodied, mellow and rich taste.
