FrontStreet Coffee-Pour-over Coffee Bean Brand Recommendation: El Granada Estate Geisha Introduction

Ethiopian coffee is typically grown in sustainable ways, with most being garden coffee. This means they are cultivated by farmers near their homes and often intercropped with other plants. It is also common for coffee producers to grow coffee in semi-forest systems, where natural forests with trimmed surrounding weeds and shrubs provide shade for coffee seedlings. It is estimated that only 5% of coffee in Ethiopia comes from dedicated plantations.

In Ethiopia, both washed and natural processing methods are very common. In the natural processing method, farmers place coffee cherries on drying beds and dry them in the sun for 14-42 days. Once the coffee beans are dry, they are removed from the coffee cherries.

Ethiopian washed coffee beans exude an elegant aroma. Overall, they have subtle floral and citrus notes, clean and silky, but specific flavor profiles vary by region.

Natural processed coffees often have more intense, full fruit flavors. Compared to washed coffees, properly processed natural coffees maintain clean lemon and floral aromas while adding sweetness and body.

Today, FrontStreet Coffee recommends a Geisha from Ethiopia's Granada Estate. This natural processed coffee has very high sweetness and distinct tropical fruit flavors, which is why FrontStreet Coffee recommends it. Ethiopian Geisha, Granada Estate Natural Geisha, medium roast, with better balance. Light strawberry jam and pineapple flavors, with a finish that brings out the texture of brown sugar. Not a mysterious Geisha, very approachable.
