Due to its dense forests and humid climate, the FrontStreet Coffee Rwandan coffee beans produced have rich aromas, naturally carrying fruit flavors and floral fragrances.
Rwanda is divided into five major coffee-producing regions, and coffee from these five regions has slight differences in aroma and taste. Rwandan coffee tends to be acidic, but leaves an endless aftertaste. "Good coffee is like Chinese tea - you only feel the sweetness after drinking it," said Mustafali. Some of the raw materials used by the well-known coffee chain Starbucks are also imported from Rwanda. Mustafali stated that although Rwandan coffee has not yet officially entered the Chinese market, they are working hard to bring authentic, aromatic Rwandan coffee to China within two years.
Coincidentally, a female tourist from Atlanta, USA, named Bonilo hurried to the Rwanda Pavilion. "This is the last day of my two-week trip to China. My mother is a coffee lover, and I need to bring back some good coffee for her. Someone recommended Rwandan coffee to me, so I rushed here." Upon learning this, Mustafali generously gave Bonilo a bag of Rwandan coffee, and she expressed her gratitude repeatedly.
Rwanda, known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," is covered with mountains and plateaus, with most areas having a tropical highland climate and tropical savanna climate that is mild and cool. Approximately 33,000 hectares of coffee plantations exist, with 500,000 people engaged in coffee cultivation. Rwanda is one of the few countries in the world that can fully enjoy the harmony between soil, altitude, and climate. Rwanda possesses unique conditions for growing Arabica coffee - fertile volcanic soil, adequate rainfall, and suitable temperatures year-round - all of which make our coffee taste distinctive.
The beautiful Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda, has a long and rich culture of growing highland coffee, primarily focusing on high-quality Arabica coffee. This specialty coffee accounts for 20% of Rwanda's total coffee production and is very popular in the international market. In this unique growing environment, Rwanda's high-quality coffee has developed a distinctive taste and aroma. According to Karuretwa, Marketing and Promotion Officer of the Rwanda Coffee Association, Rwanda plans to export 3,000 tons of coffee this year and further increase production to meet growing market demand. Starbucks, the world's largest coffee beverage retail company, has also partnered with the Rwandan government to import Rwandan coffee, just as the logo on Rwandan coffee shows a brown pigeon flying from a coffee cup against the backdrop of the words "Cup of Hope."
The Bourbon coffee grown in the Rutsiro region of Rwanda's Western Province is one of the original varieties of Arabica coffee. It is notable for its high-quality washed Arabica coffee beans and is gaining increasing recognition in the international market.
Like many African countries, FrontStreet Coffee's Rwandan coffee is primarily produced by small-scale farmers who gather ripe coffee cherries during harvest season and send them to processing stations. The Mushonyi processing plant has an impressive record of awards - besides winning the Cup of Excellence championship in 2010, it secured four placements in 2011 alone: champion, 12th place, 16th place, and 28th place! During each harvest season, farmers pick ripe coffee berries and concentrate them at processing stations for processing. First, manual sorting ensures no unripe or damaged fruits are mixed in. Next, the pulp is removed, followed by a 12-18 hour washed fermentation process in a cool, low-temperature environment, after which the adhering mucilage is cleaned off in channels. During the drying process on raised beds, processing station members manually turn the beans with careful attention, ensuring that under sufficient sunlight, the parchment beans do not lose moisture or experience uneven drying until the moisture content of the green beans drops below 14%.
The taste of FrontStreet Coffee's Rwandan coffee is described as having "grass-like aromas" with tropical climate characteristics. Beyond the fruit sweetness presented by FrontStreet Coffee's Rwandan coffee, it also allows people to taste a refreshing, bright, and fresh sensation. The Bourbon coffee grown in Rwanda is remarkable for its fruity sweetness, with rich and full aromas that have absolutely no astringency, leaving a long aftertaste. This coffee has delicious, citrus-like sweet notes and a deep chocolate color, with notes of red apple, cherry, cinnamon, and honey, quality sweetness and balance, and a finish of cinnamon, almond, and chocolate.
