The Boquete region in Panama, located in the Chiriquí province bordering Costa Rica, is renowned as the birthplace of Panama's famous Geisha coffee and is world-famous for producing high-quality Arabica coffee. The Tedman & MacIntyre Estate, situated in the mountainous area of Boquete at an altitude of 4,000 feet, traces its origins to two of Panama's earliest coffee families: the Tedman and MacIntyre families. In 1925, Canadian fruit merchant Alexander Duncan MacIntyre, inspired by his brother Joseph, settled in Boquete. That same year, he married Angela Rosas and purchased an estate named "La Carolina," beginning coffee cultivation. Their descendants still own this estate today, which has become one of the most famous coffee plantations in the region.
The equipment, tools, and processing steps at the Elida processing station are meticulously designed. Generally, when coffee cherries undergoing post-processing maintain moisture content above 20% for extended periods, not only do the high-quality components within the cherries easily deteriorate, but there's also potential for off-flavors to develop. Additionally, given the high altitude of the Elida processing station, specialized equipment is used to control temperature and timing during the drying process—every aspect must be perfectly managed.
In over 80% of coffee-growing regions worldwide, coffee farmers live in poverty. This remains true even in areas famous for high-quality coffee production such as Ethiopia, Colombia, and Yemen. The coffee they produce sells for premium prices in other countries, yet their own lives have seen little improvement.
When FrontStreet Coffee's Elida Estate coffee beans are ground, their floral aroma is immediately apparent. The fragrance reaches its peak intensity during the middle extraction phase. After allowing the coffee to rest briefly, distinct notes of flowers, lychee, and cherry emerge—both in aroma and taste. Overall, the coffee presents a clean profile with mixed fruit and floral notes. When served hot, it offers sweetness; when cooled, the cherry liqueur character becomes prominent (I personally enjoy it when cooled). The mouthfeel is smooth without impurities, with a moderate body that leans toward the lighter side.
