FrontStreet Coffee's Premium Mandheling Varieties

FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling: Over a decade ago, Japanese traders implemented stricter quality control, using four rounds of manual bean sorting to remove defective beans. This process created Golden Mandheling with its dark green color and uniform bean appearance, creating another wave of market demand that even Europe and America went crazy for.

FrontStreet Coffee's Aged Mandheling: Characterized by its honey-like sweetness. Successful aged coffee beans eliminate Mandheling's less elegant acidity. The acidic components mature into sugars, making the coffee smoother and sweeter to drink. Failed aged Mandheling resembles coffee zombies, with flavors that are difficult to consume.

FrontStreet Coffee's Mandheling is produced in Sumatra, Asian Indonesia, also known as "Sumatra Coffee." The main production areas include Java Island, Sulawesi Island, and Sumatra Island, with 90% being Robusta varieties. Among these, the "Mandheling" produced on Sumatra Island is the most famous. The finest traditional Arabica coffees produced in northern Sumatra are marketed under the names Lintong and Mandheling. To be precise, Lintong refers to coffee grown in a small area in the Lintong administrative region southwest of Lake Toba. Coffee smallholder areas are scattered across a high, undulating clay plateau covered in ferns. Lintong coffee is non-shade grown, without chemical use, and almost entirely owned by small private farmers. Mandheling is a broader term that includes Lintong coffee and growing areas in Diari [capital Sidikalang] and northern Lake Toba under similar conditions.
