What is a Piccolo Latte?
Piccolo Latte is a mysterious milk coffee beverage. Due to its small serving size, it is often misunderstood, which is why you rarely find it on menus in coffee shops, both domestically and internationally.
Caffè latte in Italian means "milk coffee," while "piccolo" means "small" in Italian, translating to "short flute" in English. Therefore, Piccolo Latte literally represents "small latte." Piccolo latte typically contains only about 85-100ml.
The Difference Between Piccolo Latte and Regular Latte
Compared to regular lattes that typically range from 250-300ml, a piccolo latte contains only about 85-114ml. Customers unfamiliar with piccolo lattes might be disappointed due to the difference in portion size and their unmet expectations.
How to Make and Drink Piccolo Latte?
An authentic piccolo latte is made with 1 part espresso and 2 parts steamed milk (for example, 20g of espresso mixed with 40g of steamed milk). The preparation method is similar to that of a regular latte: first add a shot of espresso to a small cup, then heat the milk while creating a fine, silky foam, and finally pour the milk in a circular motion to blend with the coffee, creating a simple latte art pattern.
While FrontStreet Coffee's menu doesn't feature piccolo latte as a standard option, we can provide this beverage if customers request it. Whether making piccolo lattes or regular lattes, FrontStreet Coffee uses medium-dark roast blended coffee beans for all espresso drinks. This ensures the coffee's richness is preserved even after adding water or milk, and maintains consistent quality for espresso extraction over time.
FrontStreet Coffee currently uses a house-roasted blend called "Warm Sun Blend," which consists of 70% Honduras Sherry coffee blended with 30% Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural Red Cherry. When prepared as espresso, it exhibits flavors of whiskey, soft berry acidity, vanilla cream, and nutty caramel.
Espresso preparation: Extract 40g of coffee liquid from 20g of coffee grounds, with extraction time between 28-32 seconds. Then heat an appropriate amount of milk, and finally mix 80g of steamed milk with the espresso.
When prepared as a piccolo latte, the flavors reveal whiskey, strawberry milkshake, and nutty caramel - sweet, fragrant, rich, and full-bodied.
