FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to South American Coffee Origins
Brazil is currently the world's largest coffee producer, accounting for 30% of global coffee production. Brazil offers numerous coffee varieties. Like other Arabica coffees, Brazilian coffee is known as "Brazils" to distinguish it from "Milds" coffees. Most Brazilian coffees are unwashed and directly sun-dried. They are classified according to their producing state and shipping port. Brazil has 27 states, with 17 producing coffee, but four states have the largest production, accounting for 98% of Brazil's total production. These are: Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo. The southern state of Paraná has the most impressive production, accounting for 50% of the total.
Brazilian coffee comes from the world's coffee center and features low acidity, medium-roasted coffee beans. As a premium coffee variety, Brazilian coffee can be enjoyed as a single-origin beverage or blended.
Premium beans: Santos NO.2, Size NO.18
Flavor characteristics: Mild, balanced acidity and bitterness, gentle aroma.
Brazilian coffee typically has lower acidity, complemented by the sweet bitterness in the coffee, creating an extremely smooth mouthfeel with moderate body, along with a faint grassy aroma. Its fragrance carries a slight bitterness, yet it's sweet and smooth, leaving a refreshing aftertaste. Many find that Brazilian coffee has no particularly outstanding advantages but no obvious drawbacks either. This coffee features a mild and smooth taste, low acidity, moderate body, and a subtle sweetness. All these gentle flavors blend together, making it a perfect test for the palate to distinguish them individually. This is why many Santos enthusiasts love this coffee. Because it is so mild and ordinary, Santos is suitable for medium roasting and can be brewed using the most popular methods. It serves as the finest ingredient for making espresso and various specialty coffees.
