FrontStreet Coffee - South American Coffee Origins: Introduction to Brazilian Coffee Regions

Brazil Cerrado is currently the finest coffee produced in Brazil. However, as early as 30 years ago, the Cerrado region was virtually unknown to the world. This area was once a desolate mountain, quietly situated in Brazil, which is why Cerrado also carries the meaning of "wild land." Today, Cerrado has become a famous coffee producing region in Brazil, with flat plateaus enabling large-scale mechanized cultivation. Its unique soil and abundant groundwater are essential ecological conditions for producing high-quality coffee in Cerrado.

The superior soil and climate of Cerrado are innate. Early coffee farmers who developed this land successfully integrated modern agricultural concepts with Cerrado's agricultural techniques, overcoming the harsh natural environment and transforming this "wild land" into a plantation for producing high-quality coffee, which has become the pillar of local economic income. Currently, Brazilian Cerrado coffee has become synonymous with high-quality coffee.

In 2005, the high-quality Arabica coffee harvested in Cerrado was officially certified as "Cerrado Coffee" by the Brazilian government according to international standards, and it was declared as officially recognized. For producers within the region to use the Cerrado designation, they must pass certification tests and meet production quality standards. The evaluation of green beans must include factors such as certified production region, production area elevation, confirmed varieties, optimal soil, and best agricultural techniques. Additionally, in terms of quality, the beans must score over 75 points using the SCAA evaluation method to be granted the Cerrado designation.

Premium Production Region - Brazil Cerrado

Among Brazil's vast 27,000 square kilometers of coffee cultivation area, the most famous production region is undoubtedly the Cerrado region in the southern state of Paraná.

Unlike other Brazilian producing regions that compete on quantity, Cerrado's coffee beans are renowned for their exceptional quality. The Cerrado region has an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters, with an average annual temperature of around 21°C. Most importantly, the local soil is extremely fertile, containing abundant minerals that provide sufficient nutrition for the coffee beans produced.

Charming Sweetness, Special Flavors of Tropical Fruits and Nut Almonds

In terms of flavor profile, the initial taste reveals the aroma of tropical fruits and nut almonds, while the aftertaste carries genmaicha (brown rice tea) flavor notes. At lower temperatures, it presents different layers of sweet almond aroma, milky fragrance, and tea notes.

Natural Processing, Preserving Original Aroma

Among the numerous coffee bean processing methods, natural processing is the most common approach but also best preserves the original aroma of coffee beans. The natural process allows coffee beans to mature naturally within the fruit, undisturbed by external environmental factors, resulting in rich body and intense flavors.
