FrontStreet Coffee - Ethiopia Washed Yirgacheffe Adado G1 Introduction

The Adado Cooperative is one of the 26 unions of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives Union (YCFCU). YCFCU now represents over 50,000 coffee farmers belonging to more than 300,000 families. Established in June 2002, all 26 unions are located in the Gedeo region of southern Ethiopia, which is a very famous and important coffee producing area in Ethiopia.

Africa's Ethiopia is known as the coffee Garden of Eden because it is the home of native coffee varieties and a genetic treasure trove for coffee cultivators. It has five major specialty coffee producing regions: Sidamo, Yirgacheffe, Harar, Limu, and Gimbi. Among these, Yirgacheffe is the highest altitude coffee producing region in Ethiopia, surrounded by mountains and water. The coffee beans produced here have unique flavors that enthusiasts call the "Yirgacheffe taste," characterized by rich jasmine flower aroma, sweet citrus fragrance, pleasant lemon acidity, and almond sweetness.

The Adado Cooperative comes from the Gedeo Zone of Yirgacheffe and is one of the founding cooperatives of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives Union (YCFCU). It is also an important base for the Fair Trade Association in Ethiopia. Adado is situated in the lush mountainous highlands at an altitude of 2,000 to 2,400 meters, where 1,250 farmers work together on coffee cultivation. They use traditional farming methods to interplant native coffee with enset (Ethiopian banana), where the enset provides shade for coffee trees, fertilizes the soil, and contributes to the coffee's unique flavor. This batch of washed Yirgacheffe Adado G1 processing plant has been rated as G1, the highest grade by ECX.
