FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Panama Lerrida Estate Natural Geisha

The story begins in the distant Geisha town in western Ethiopia, where coffee berries were shipped to Kenya, then to Uganda and Tanzania, then across the sea to Costa Rica's tropical agricultural region, and shortly after, arrived in Panama.

Lerrida Estate is located in the Boquete region of Chiriquí Province, Panama's famous tourist destination. Lerrida Coffee Estate has a rich cultural heritage, dating back to 1929 in professional coffee exports. The coffee on this land was first planted by a Norwegian couple, the Monniche couple, and was initially sold to Germany, creating a wave of coffee enthusiasm. In 1956, the Collins couple took over this land, attracting customers, and the land became one of the most valuable areas in La Amistad National Park. Lerrida Coffee Estate, including Baru Volcano National Park and La Amistad National Park, is home to over 550 species of birds. The center of this estate features antique hotel facilities, surrounded by natural beauty.

The Boquete region has always been the most noteworthy coffee producing area in Panama. There are many well-known products in the region—the most prominent being the Geisha variety. Geisha beans are long and large, characterized by high density, complex processing techniques requiring skilled and precise drying methods, and strict screening. Any slight negligence can cause subtle differences in taste.

Boquete's unique climate, with distinct dry and wet seasons, abundant sunshine and rainfall, plus the fertile soil formed by volcanic ash from Baru Volcano, at an altitude of around 1,500 meters, allowed Lerrida Estate's coffee cultivation to quickly develop its own characteristics.
