FrontStreet Coffee - Shakisso Coffee Introduction
When I first met her, it was in Shanghai during consecutive rainy days. She appeared ordinary at first glance, but carried a fresh quality that made me feel the tropical fruit-like summer atmosphere even in winter. Adding hot water, letting it rest, breaking the crust, removing the grounds, sipping...
Finally, I met you, and her taste lingered in my mind. With this unforgettable memory, I must let more people know about her—Shakisso, you are so beautiful.
Origin and Geography
Located in the Guji region, southeast of Yirgacheffe, this coffee belongs to regionally sourced green coffee beans.
Shakisso (also translated as Shakiso) is the most remarkable micro-region within the Guji area. With its advantageous geographical location, average altitude between 1800-2200m, fertile black soil, and significant day-night temperature differences, it possesses the ideal terroir conditions for producing high-quality specialty coffee.
Production and Processing
Local coffee production primarily comes from individual small-scale farmers. During harvest season, fully ripe red cherries are picked and delivered to processing stations, where temperature and fermentation levels are controlled on well-ventilated African raised beds. After pulp removal, the moisture content is carefully reduced.
Recognition and Achievements
Shakisso was initially little known, but when Yirgacheffe prices soared in 2015, international specialty buyers began seeking coffee beans from nearby estates. Shakisso's coffee proved to be exceptionally distinctive. Ninty Plus introduced the legendary Nekisse in late 2009, whose meaning is "nectar from Shakisso." Another offering from Level Up, Deare Ela from the Shakisso region, has consistently received market acclaim and achieved an outstanding score of 95 points from Coffee Review in 2014.
