FrontStreet Coffee - Shakiso Coffee Introduction
Shakiso, located in Guji, Oromia region in the south, adjacent to Sidama and Gedeo, is a unique producing area within Guji. This area has many mining pits that were originally used for gold mining, so there are many pits in this coffee growing area. This makes it dangerous to walk between coffee growing areas.
The coffee from Shakiso has considerable uniqueness, and the coffee produced has repeatedly gained market attention. The legendary bean (nekisse) from Ninety Plus originally means "Nectar from Shakiso," and its producing area and naming both come from Shakiso.
Guji has two major advantages that even Yirgacheffe cannot match!
First is the single processing station/estate system. No doubt, the rare single estate system in Ethiopia can be seen in Guji, and now there are more and more batches that can be custom processed!
The other is the high-altitude climate advantage. The Guji producing area has an altitude starting from at least 2,000 meters, with excellent quality. The higher the altitude, the harder and denser the coffee beans grown, and they can express unique flavors.
In addition, local small farmers have been growing organic coffee beans since 2001, cooperating with medium-sized producers and foreign companies in technology. The right timing, location, and people have made this producing area shine.
At current prices, it is very worthwhile to purchase coffee beans from this emerging producing area. Guji not only has high altitudes but also super high cost-performance ratio, making it one of the emerging producing areas not to be missed!
