Baoshan Lujiang Valley boasts a unique dry-hot valley climate in Yunnan Province and even throughout China, making it exceptionally suitable for coffee tree cultivation. Located at longitude 98°44′-99°05′E and latitude 24°46′-25°33′N, Lujiang Valley is situated at the eastern foot of Gaoligong Mountain, along both banks of the Nujiang River, with elevations ranging from 640 to 3510 meters. Most coffee growing areas are situated between 800-1200 meters elevation, with a small portion already planted at around 1400 meters.
Baoshan Arabica coffee is a specialty product of Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, and a Chinese National Geographical Indication product.
Baoshan Arabica coffee stands among the finest coffees in China and even globally. The beans are uniform and plump, with a fresh aroma, rich fragrance, mellow taste, and full-bodied yet smooth character. Renowned worldwide for its exceptional quality, it was rated as first-grade at the London market in the late 1950s, earning the distinguished name "Lujiang No. 1." In 1980, it was recognized as "China's Premier Coffee" at the National Coffee Conference.
The Baoshan Lujiang Valley in Yunnan Province features a distinctive dry-hot valley climate, highly suitable for Arabica coffee cultivation. Located in Longyang District's Lujiang Valley, at the eastern foot of Gaoligong Mountain along the Nujiang River banks, spanning longitude 98°44′-99°05′E and latitude 24°46′-25°33′N, with elevations from 640 to 3510 meters. Most Arabica growing areas are situated between 800-1200 meters elevation, with some regions now cultivating at approximately 1400 meters. The raw material cultivation base features a subtropical monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of 21.3°C, 2334.5 annual sunshine hours, annual rainfall of 721.51-100mm, active accumulated temperature of 7800°C at ≥10°C, and essentially frost-free conditions year-round. It stands as one of the world's premier production regions for quality Arabica coffee.
In 2015, Baoshan's coffee cultivation area exceeded 235,000 mu, with coffee production reaching 35,120 tons and achieving output value of 640 million yuan. Among this, 10,086 tons were exported, generating $36.54614 million in foreign exchange, with agricultural output value reaching 634 million yuan and sales value of 699 million yuan.
