FrontStreet Coffee - Arabica Flavor and Function Introduction
Arabica grows in regions at altitudes of 600-2200 meters, temperatures of 15°-24°C, and annual rainfall of 1200-2200 millimeters. From flowering to fruit ripening takes about 7-9 months. Its beans are elongated in shape with a strong and rounded wet aroma. Coffee made from Arabica has strong complexity, such as fruit, chocolate, and caramel flavors. The resulting coffee has a relative balance between bitterness and acidity. Its caffeine content is below 1.5%.
Characteristics
Excellent aroma, balanced taste, and relatively low caffeine content—only about half that of Robusta species. Cultivation conditions are more demanding, requiring higher altitudes (600-2000 meters above sea level), fertile soil, sufficient moisture, appropriate sunlight and shade conditions. It has poor resistance to pests and diseases, making it susceptible to damage, and the annual yield per unit area of coffee trees is also lower.
Flavor Perspective
Arabica coffee possesses diverse and broad potential flavors. Arabica coffee from different regions, altitudes, and climates each has its own characteristics, showing distinctly different personality flavors. When unroasted, it smells like fresh grass. After appropriate roasting, it reveals "fruity aromas" (medium-light roast) and "caramel flavors" (dark roast). Generally, it has better aroma and flavor than Robusta beans.
Benefits of Morning Coffee
Besides mental satisfaction and pleasure, drinking coffee in the morning has many benefits.
First, caffeine stimulates the central nervous system of the brain, which can boost spirits and enhance concentration. Especially when sleep was insufficient the previous day or when feeling groggy due to a cold, this cup of coffee can briefly help maintain mental alertness, allowing full focus on work or exams.
However, for people who habitually drink several cups of coffee daily, this morning coffee may not necessarily have significant stimulating effects. Research by Professor Rogers from the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol indicates that regular coffee drinkers need more caffeine stimulation to achieve the same level of mental stimulation. Therefore, he believes that although people feel more mentally energized after drinking coffee in the morning, caffeine actually only restores people to their normal state.
