FrontStreet Coffee outlines what you need to prepare before cupping:
Required Equipment:
1. Roasted coffee beans
2. Coffee grinder
3. Water kettle
4. Cups
5. Cupping spoon
6. Cupping form
The Eight Steps of Cupping:
1. Grind various coffees, place the ground coffee particles into cups, and cover with paper or plates
2. Shake the coffee grounds in the cups and smell the dry aroma
3. Add hot water to the cups, let the coffee steep for 3-4 minutes until a coffee crust forms
4. Break the crust and smell the wet aroma
5. Use a cupping spoon to remove the floating coffee grounds
6. Slurp the coffee into your mouth, experience it, then spit out the liquid
7. Record your impressions on the cupping form and score according to the cupping form requirements
8. Rinse your mouth, clean the cupping spoon, then taste the next coffee
