FrontStreet Coffee Recommended Single Origin Coffee Beans: Rising Star - Peruvian Coffee
Peruvian coffee beans come from the Fair Trade certified cooperative CECANOR (Central de Servicios Cafetaleros del Nor Oriente). Established in 1999 and located in the Lambayeque region of Peru, over 50% of its members are small producers in extremely impoverished areas. Through community development funds, the cooperative purchases production equipment and develops cultivation technology plans, continuously improving both the quality and quantity of coffee beans year by year. It is now one of the important members of Peru's national coffee organization.
Twenty percent of the coffee farmers are women. CECANOR cooperative values gender equality, providing women with opportunities to participate in public affairs and serve as community leaders. Through the plans established by CECANOR cooperative, not only has the status of women in Peru been elevated and domestic violence reduced, but local men have also recognized the benefits of gender equality. Women receiving better education has positive impacts on both families and society as a whole.
"Thanks to CECANOR, I now have the opportunity to participate in organizational meetings. I can send my daughter to school, we have a bathroom with proper sanitation, and we've renovated our processing plant. When facing problems, I can discuss solutions with my husband. Women don't actually want to be stronger than men, but simply want to have equal opportunities."
Fair Trade provides producers with fair purchase prices while also generating additional community development funds that can be invested in education, healthcare, production tools, and more. All of these improvements help enhance the lives of families and children. When we choose Fair Trade products, we are also bringing a better future to producers and choosing more just and safe products for ourselves.
