Peruvian coffee beans come from the Fair Trade certified cooperative CECANOR (Central de Servicios Cafetaleros del Nor Oriente). Established in 1999 and located in the Lambayeque region of Peru, over 50% of its members are small producers in extremely impoverished areas. Through community development funds, the cooperative buys production equipment and sets up cultivation technology plans, improving both the quality and the quantity of its coffee year by year. It is now one of the important members of Peru's national coffee organization.

Twenty percent of the coffee farmers are women. CECANOR values gender equality and gives women the chance to take part in public affairs and serve as community leaders. Through the plans the cooperative has set up, the status of women in Peru has risen and domestic violence has fallen, and local men have come to recognize the benefits of equality as well. Better education for women has positive effects on families and on society as a whole.

I can send my daughter to school, we have a bathroom with proper sanitation, and we've renovated our processing plant. When facing problems, I can discuss solutions with my husband.
