El Salvador: The Heart of Central American Coffee

El Salvador is located in the heart of Central America and is the smallest country in the region. The country features developed volcanic terrain, with active volcanic activity bringing mineral-rich soil. As a result, quite a few coffee beans produced in El Salvador are named after volcanoes.

El Salvador has only about 20,000 small farmers engaged in coffee cultivation, with production accounting for 0.9% of the world's coffee futures trading volume, and exports only accounting for 5.1% of national trade volume. Though small, the specialty coffee system is very complete. The establishment of the National Coffee Council and laboratories, along with investment in the Cup of Excellence (CoE) competition, have all stimulated the Salvadoran specialty coffee market and improved quality.

Santa Rosa Estate

Santa Rosa Estate is located in La Palma town, Chalatenango region, northern El Salvador, separated from Honduras by a volcano. Coffee is mostly grown on soil covered with volcanic ash at an average altitude exceeding 1,200 meters. To avoid excessive temperatures and direct sun exposure, tall shade trees are extensively used to regulate temperature, greatly improving coffee quality.

Pacamara: A Dream Variety

Pacamara was developed by the Salvadoran Coffee Research Institute, cultivated by crossing Pacas with Maragogype. Its main characteristic is that the coffee beans are larger and fuller than other varieties, with a very appealing appearance. It is a truly dream variety that emerged from the pursuit of both beauty and deliciousness by farmers and connoisseurs.
