Story and Heritage:

In ancient times, this fertile soil was covered by dense forests that served as the habitat for lions, hence the name. This batch is named after this legacy. During cupping, while enjoying the character in the cup and reflecting on its origins, the passage of millennia and Ethiopia's complex and changing ethnic landscape, contrasted with recent turmoil in Ethiopia, truly evokes a sense of profound change through time, leaving an endless aftertaste and deep contemplation.

This FrontStreet Coffee Ethiopian washed coffee bean product comes from the Hambela Estate. The estate owner, Aman, received a Western education and has comprehensive experience in Western corporations. Even more remarkably, after returning to Ethiopia, before establishing his own coffee production company, he served as the Chief Operation Officer of ECX. Due to the neutrality principle of official institutions, he could not intervene in production or commercial matters during his tenure. After leaving his position, he could finally realize his ambitions.

He selected two locations in Ethiopia: one is Gedeb, where our previously sold-out FrontStreet Coffee · Gedeb Single Farm Single-Layer Slow-Dried Batch 118 originated, and the second, and most important, is this Hambela Estate.

Single-layer stacking provides coffee cherries with the most perfect convection and drying environment, which everyone knows, but it's also the most space-consuming and least production-efficient method. Proper slow-drying allows coffee cherries to develop optimal water activity during the drying process. Not only does this develop excellent flavors, but it also allows the green beans to be maintained longer during the seasonal cycle. However, again, this method extends the time required for each batch production. Adopting such drying processes not only depends on favorable weather conditions but also requires the producer's willingness to invest.

Aman's commitment to coffee quality not only moves us but also makes this coffee a must-select variety for third-wave industry players in Europe and America, such as Intelligentsia, Klach, and Barrington. In March 2016, Barrington achieved an outstanding score of 96 points from Coffee Review with Hambela's washed coffee beans.
