Primary Growing Regions
Arabica coffee is suitable for growing on mountainous terrain at altitudes between 800-1800 meters. If the altitude is too high, the taste becomes sour; if too low, it becomes bitter. Most Arabica coffee is planted in dry, hot valley areas around 1100 meters altitude, resulting in moderate acidity with rich and mellow aroma. Many regions in Yunnan have unique environments suitable for Arabica coffee cultivation, producing exceptionally high-quality beans.
The main growing areas are distributed in Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, Dehong, and other prefectures. Baoshan has an average temperature of 21.5°C, reaching up to 40.4°C, and is basically frost-free year-round, making it recognized as the best Arabica coffee growing region. The Arabica coffee cultivated here is renowned both domestically and internationally for being rich but not bitter, fragrant but not intense, with small yet uniform beans, rich mellow aroma, and fruity notes. International coffee organization tasting experts have evaluated Yunnan coffee as being in the same category as Colombian wet-processed Arabica coffee, making it one of the world's high-quality coffees.
Variety
Typica, this classic high-quality coffee variety, is the main cultivated variety for this batch of coffee. Typica coffee originates from southeastern Ethiopia and Sudan and is the most widely cultivated coffee variety in the Western Hemisphere. The plants are relatively robust but not tolerant to strong light, with higher yields in Hawaii. Typica's terminal leaves are copper-colored, earning it the name "red-topped coffee."
Brewing Method
Hand-poured Yunnan Flower Fruit Mountain. 15g of coffee, medium grind (ground with Fuji's ghost tooth burr grinder #4), V60 dripper, water temperature 88-89°C. First pour 30g of water for a 27-second bloom, then pour to 105g and pause. Wait until the water level drops to half before continuing the pour, slowly pouring until reaching 225g total. Avoid the tail section. Water-to-coffee ratio 1:15, extraction time 2:00.
Growth Period
Yunnan Arabica coffee bears fruit at 3-4 years of age.
Coffee is a short-day plant. Coffee has the characteristics of multiple flowering and concentrated flowering periods. Arabica coffee in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, particularly rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan, lasting only 2-3 days. Arabica coffee typically begins to bloom between 3-5 AM and reaches full bloom between 5-7 AM.
Coffee fruit development takes a relatively long time. Arabica coffee fruit takes 8-10 months to mature, typically ripening between October and December of the same year. Rainfall has a significant impact on fruit development, and climate conditions directly affect the fruit.
Yunnan Arabica Coffee
Yunnan Arabica coffee belongs to the Rubiaceae family, Coffea genus. The growing areas are mainly distributed in Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, Dehong, and other prefectures. Arabica coffee originates from Ethiopia or the Arabian Peninsula.
Flavor description: Rich but not bitter, fragrant but not intense, with floral notes, melon sweetness in the mid-palate, and a black tea finish.
Baoshan Arabica coffee, a specialty of Yunnan's Baoshan Lujiang region, is a national geographical indication product and one of the finest quality coffees in China and even globally. The beans are uniform and full, with a fresh aroma, rich fragrance, and mellow taste. Being rich but not intense, it can be compared to the world-famous Blue Mountain coffee. It enjoys global reputation for its unique and excellent quality: in the late 1950s, it was rated as first-grade at the London market and earned the beautiful name "Lujiang No. 1." At the 1980 National Coffee Conference, it was recognized as the "Crown of National Coffee."
