The Story of Geisha Coffee
Geisha is pronounced similarly to the Japanese word "geisha," hence its alternative name "Geisha Coffee." Because the tree variety grows taller than typical coffee trees, it was originally planted in a small area within the finca and used as a windbreak. It wasn't until the finca owner's son, seeking to participate in the annual Panama Best Coffee competition, tested all coffee tree varieties throughout the finca that Geisha had its moment to shine. Since then, it has participated in various world coffee competitions, winning a total of eleven championships.
The Geisha variety was discovered in the Geisha forest of Ethiopia in 1931 and then sent to the Coffee Research Institute in Kenya. In 1936, it was introduced to Uganda and Tanzania, and in 1953, Costa Rica brought it in. For a long time, Geisha didn't receive much attention until one day, Don Pachi initially brought it from the small town of GESHA in southwestern Ethiopia to Costa Rica. Afterward, Geisha traveled along the southern route into Panama. Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda separated it from other varieties, and it made a spectacular breakthrough by winning the national coffee competition championship.
Geisha possesses full-bodied sweetness, an extremely clean cup profile, and rich aromas that extend from berries and citrus to mango, papaya, and peach notes. A very distinct bergamot-like aftertaste is also one of its typical cupping characteristics. To this day, Geisha remains the champion among coffee varieties.

About Mamacata Finca
Compared to other ancient and venerable fincas, Mamacata, established in 1997, is relatively young. Without a long historical legacy, the finca owner José David Garrido Pérez himself holds Q Grader certification, which allows Mamacata to focus more intensely on coffee cultivation techniques to produce unique coffee beans.
The finca is situated in the Chiriquí district of Boquete, at an altitude of 1500-1700 meters, with an average annual temperature between 13-26°C, annual rainfall of approximately 4000mm, and nutrient-rich volcanic ash soil, making it an exceptionally suitable environment for coffee cultivation. This natural microclimate enhances the richness of compounds in the coffee beans. Unlike traditional coffee fincas, Mamacata uses GPS coordinates to define its micro-lot areas.
Through understanding and inference of technological information, growers obtain data on each coffee tree's variety, soil composition, health status, and production conditions. This information enables them to effectively respond to any variables that might adversely affect coffee bean production, further establishing Mamacata as one of the consistent winners in the Best of Panama competition.
