FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe Coffee

The coffee trees of FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe were originally cultivated by European monks (similar to how Belgian monks grow grain for brewing beer), later managed by farmers or cooperatives. Yirgacheffe is actually composed of surrounding coffee communities or cooperatives, including Idido near Misty Valley, Harfusa, Hama, and Biloya, which all use washed processing, though a small amount of premium beans are intentionally natural-processed to enhance the charming fruit aroma and richness. These mountain villages are shrouded in mist, with spring-like weather year-round—gentle summer breezes that are cool without being hot, rainy without being damp, and winters that avoid frost damage, nurturing FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe's unique regional character of citrus and floral notes. Coffee trees are mostly planted in farmers' backyards or mixed with other crops, with small production per household, representing typical pastoral coffee. Award-winning Yirgacheffe beans almost exclusively come from these coffee villages and communities.

The Signature "Yirgacheffe Flavor"

The so-called "Yirgacheffe flavor" refers to rich jasmine floral aroma, lemon or lime citrus fragrance, and peach, almond sweetness, or tea-like notes. This season, FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe dry aroma features particularly prominent blueberry notes, filling the entire room with blueberry fragrance after grinding.

The phrase "coffee enters the mouth, a hundred flowers bloom" perfectly describes this experience, akin to flowers stimulating the taste buds and olfactory cells with a soothing sensation. Beyond the floral aromas, the delicate body feels like silk massaging the palate—a truly marvelous tactile sensation.

Origin and Processing

This FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe coffee bean comes from a single farm in Ethiopia, processed by the Worka Cooperative. Alemayehu Alako Farm is a member of the Worka Cooperative.

The Worka Cooperative is located in southern Gedeb District, established in 2005, and joined the renowned Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) that same year. It's known for producing high-quality natural-processed Yirgacheffe coffee. The Worka Cooperative has approximately 300 coffee farmers. YCFCU was established in 2002 and includes 26 other cooperatives, serving over 45,000 coffee farmers. Compared to the traditionally natural-processed Harar region, natural-processed Yirgacheffe is less common. As the first region in Ethiopia to establish a washing station, Yirgacheffe is more familiar to coffee enthusiasts for FrontStreet Coffee's washed Yirgacheffe, known for its elegant lemon and citrus character.

Washed Processing Excellence

Washed-processed coffee is less likely to carry wild flavors, possessing pure and refreshing characteristics that are suitable for light roast levels. This FrontStreet Coffee washed Ethiopian can achieve the highest G1 grade, indicating very few defects.

Flavor Profile
