Understanding the Unique Smoky Flavor

Initially, some scholars believed that Guatemalan coffee's unique flavor was due to its rich volcanic soil. However, since the Huehuetenango region is not located within the volcanic zone yet its coffee still exhibits the same smoky flavor, this hypothesis was debunked.

Huehuetenango Coffee Beans

This Daily Brew comes from highlands in Huehuetenango at 1,500-2,000 meters altitude. The quality represents the common Bourbon lineage found in Central and South America, including Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai varieties. These coffee varieties are all excellent Arabica cultivars known for their bright acidity and fresh, sweet fruit aromas.

This Guatemalan coffee bean undergoes washed processing. Due to the numerous rivers and lakes throughout Guatemala, the Huehuetenango region benefits from abundant mountain and water resources. Despite having a dry climate, the area has plentiful water supply and comprehensive water infrastructure facilities, making washed processing the preferred method for coffee production.

When FrontStreet Coffee's roaster cupped this Huehuetenango coffee, they distinctly noted nutty undertones, medium acidity characteristic of washed processing, and berry-like flavor notes as it cooled. The lemon peel and smoky notes represent the distinctive regional characteristics.
