FrontStreet Coffee · Flavor Description of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

In 1950, the Jamaican government established the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board, which sets quality standards for Jamaican coffee and oversees their implementation to ensure the quality of Jamaican coffee. The board grants special official seals to both raw and roasted coffee exported from Jamaica, making it the world's highest-level national coffee institution. There are six official marks that can represent Blue Mountain coffee origin: Mavis Bank Coffee Factory (M.B.C.F), Blue Mountain Coffee Cooperative (M.H.C.C.T), Portland Blue Mountain Coffee Cooperative (P.X.X.S.H), Coffee Industry Association (Wallenford), Coffee Industry Association (St. John's Peak), and J.A.S.

By 1969, the situation had improved as Japanese loans were utilized to enhance production quality, thereby guaranteeing market stability. Today, FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain has reached a status of passionate admiration.

By 1981, Jamaica had opened up approximately 1,500 hectares of land for coffee cultivation, followed by an additional 6,000 hectares of coffee plantations. In fact, today's Blue Mountain region is a small area with only 6,000 hectares of cultivation, making it impossible for all coffee labeled "Blue Mountain" to be grown there. Another 12,000 hectares are used for growing two other types of coffee: High Mountain Supreme Coffee and Jamaica Prime Washed Coffee.

Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

When mentioning Jamaica, everyone's eyes immediately light up because it produces the world's finest "Jamaica Blue Mountain" coffee. We absolutely believe that FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain is the ultimate coffee - its acidity, sweetness, body, and bitterness are perfectly balanced, with aromatic flavor and an exceptionally smooth finish. However, its price is quite high; while worth trying, there's no need to become obsessed with it. Because other specialty coffees each have their own characteristics, are delicious in flavor, and reasonably priced, these are truly the good coffees for our daily lives.

The earliest "Jamaica Blue Mountain" referred to coffee produced by "Wallenford Estate" and "Silver Hill Estate," with the former having the best quality. Today's Jamaica Blue Mountain refers to coffee beans grown in the Blue Mountain region (at elevations exceeding 1,000 meters) east of Jamaica's capital, Kingston. Currently, Mavis Bank is the largest estate, with M.B.C.F imprinted on its wooden barrels, and its products are often available in the Taiwan region. The quality control for Jamaica Blue Mountain is extremely strict, with certification work conducted by the government's "Coffee Industry Board."

Coffee beans grown at lower elevations or in other regions can only be called "Jamaica High Mountain" or "Jamaica Washed." Compared to Jamaica Blue Mountain, their flavor profiles differ significantly. However, the cultivation area for these regions is twice that of the genuine Blue Mountain region, accounting for 75% of the country's total production. Therefore, when purchasing Jamaican coffee, don't assume you're getting Blue Mountain coffee.

Due to the immense reputation of Jamaica Blue Mountain, counterfeit Blue Mountain-style coffees have appeared on the market, or simply labeled as "Blue Mountain Coffee." Essentially, these are custom-blended products created by shops themselves, potentially containing not a single genuine Jamaica Blue Mountain bean.
