Those who adore Blue Mountain coffee call it the "coffee beauty" that embodies all the virtues of fine coffee. Not all coffee produced in Jamaica's Blue Mountain region bears the "Blue Mountain Coffee" designation. Coffee from this region has two grades: "High Mountain Coffee" and "Blue Mountain Coffee." Only coffee grown at elevations above 609 meters in the Blue Mountain region is authorized to use the "Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee" designation.

Quality Assurance and Unique Production

FrontStreet Coffee's ability to maintain the supreme status of Blue Mountain coffee today is also inseparable from local business policies. In 1932, Jamaica implemented policies to encourage coffee production and reduce the island's dependence on sugar exports. Unlike most coffee-producing countries that increased output by extensively planting high-yield, lower-quality coffee varieties, the local government prioritized quality, preferring to sacrifice yield rather than compromise the quality of Blue Mountain coffee. Consequently, Jamaica is currently one of the world's smaller coffee-producing nations. While Brazil, the world's largest coffee exporter, produces 30 million bags of coffee annually, Blue Mountain coffee produces only about 40,000 bags per year.

For the exceptionally precious Blue Mountain coffee, the Jamaican government also employs distinctive packaging and transportation methods. Unlike other coffees packaged in 60kg burlap bags, Blue Mountain coffee is packaged and transported in wooden barrels holding 70kg each. Even more remarkably, every wooden barrel comes with a certificate issued and stamped by the Jamaican government to prove its authentic pedigree—this is absolutely unique in the entire coffee world.

Cultivation and Processing

Eighty percent of Jamaica's territory is covered by mountains. Here, the mountain ranges are steep and majestic, with coffee trees growing almost exclusively on rugged slopes. Therefore, the coffee bean harvesting process during the harvest season is extremely difficult—only skilled local women workers can accomplish this task. During harvesting, perfectly ripe coffee beans must be selected; under-ripe or overripe beans would affect the coffee quality. After picking, the coffee beans must be hulled the same day, then fermented for 12–18 hours. Subsequently, the beans undergo washing and sorting. The next step is drying, which must be conducted on concrete floors or thick blankets until the bean moisture content drops to 12–14%. Then they are stored in dedicated warehouses. When needed, they are taken out for roasting and ground into powder. These procedures must be strictly controlled; otherwise, the coffee quality will be affected.

Geographic Origins

The unique flavor of FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain coffee is related to the exceptionally favorable geographical location and climate conditions of the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains lie within the coffee belt between 25° north and south latitude, featuring fertile new volcanic soil, fresh and unpolluted air, year-round rainfall, and significant day-night temperature variations. Most importantly, every afternoon, clouds and mist envelop the mountaintops, not only providing natural shade for the coffee trees but also bringing abundant moisture, making FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain coffee's taste and aroma outstanding.

FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain coffee originates from the island of Jamaica in the Caribbean Sea. The island is traversed by many mountain ranges, and the slopes of these mountains are Jamaica's main coffee-producing areas. The Blue Mountains, located northeast of Jamaica's capital, are merely one peak among these mountain ranges. This mountain earned its beautiful name because when British soldiers first arrived in Jamaica and saw the peaks enveloped in a blue radiance, they exclaimed: "Look! Blue mountains!" From then on, it was named "Blue Mountains." The island of Jamaica is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. On clear days, brilliant sunlight shines on the sea surface, and the distant mountains, refracted by the azure seawater, are enveloped in a faint, ethereal blue atmosphere, appearing dreamy and otherworldly with a touch of mystery.
