Carmen Estate Coffee is a family-owned coffee estate that has long been committed to providing high-quality coffee while protecting the environment. In 1950, Efrain and Carmen Franceschi began cultivating Arabica coffee varieties on their estate. Today, Carmen Estate's single processing facility produces approximately 1,200 bags (60 kg each) of unique, high-quality coffee beans annually!
Carmen Estate is located in a volcanic valley at an altitude of 1,750 meters. The estate is blessed with fertile soil and excellent natural shade. Additionally, this region benefits from the dual climatic influences of both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, creating cool weather with no nighttime frost damage. These characteristics, combined with dry weather conditions, create excellent growing conditions! Thanks to the volcanic black soil and proper drainage systems, Carmen Estate produces high-quality Arabica coffee of Catuai, Caturra, and Typica varieties!
Carmen Estate maintains 60% natural primary forest, where coffee trees are planted and grow beneath this natural canopy! This has earned the farm Rainforest Alliance certification as ECO-OK environmental coffee! Coffee harvesting occurs from late December to March of the following year, with manual single-berry picking of fully ripe coffee cherries. Waste generated during processing (such as pulp and juice) is properly converted into compost or recycled. After initial sun drying, the green beans are stored in dedicated warehouses for secondary moisture content adjustment, with hulling performed before export to maintain excellent green bean quality!
Carmen Estate has received the ecological maintenance certification (Certified Eco-OK Coffees) issued by the Rainforest Alliance. This certification is extremely strict to obtain, requiring every processing step from cultivation through green bean polishing to meet environmental and organic requirements. These include species diversity within the estate, zero-pollution processing processes, reduced or limited use of artificial chemical fertilizers, and socioeconomic security for estate coffee farmers, among others.
