Carmen Estate is a family-run coffee farm that has long been committed to producing high-quality coffee while protecting the environment. In 1950, Efrain and Carmen Franceschi began cultivating Arabica varieties on the estate. Today, Carmen Estate's single processing facility turns out roughly 1,200 bags (60 kg each) of distinctive, high-quality green coffee every year.

The estate sits in a volcanic valley at 1,750 meters, blessed with fertile soil and generous natural shade. The region also benefits from the combined climatic influence of both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, which keeps the weather cool without exposing the trees to nighttime frost. Together with the dry conditions here, these factors create excellent growing conditions. The volcanic black soil and well-designed drainage allow Carmen Estate to produce high-quality Arabica of the Catuai, Caturra, and Typica varieties.

Carmen Estate keeps 60% of its land as natural primary forest, and the coffee trees are planted and grown beneath that native canopy. This has earned the farm Rainforest Alliance certification as ECO-OK environmental coffee. Harvest runs from late December through March of the following year, with fully ripe cherries picked by hand, one berry at a time. By-products of processing such as pulp and juice are properly composted or recycled. After the initial sun drying, the green beans are stored in dedicated warehouses for a secondary moisture adjustment, and hulling is carried out before export so that green bean quality stays excellent.

Carmen Estate has been granted the Certified Eco-OK Coffees designation by the Rainforest Alliance. This certification is extremely demanding to obtain: every step from cultivation through green bean polishing must meet environmental and organic requirements. These include species diversity on the estate, zero-pollution processing, reduced or limited use of artificial chemical fertilizers, and socioeconomic security for the estate's coffee farmers.

It is an estate-level Geisha planted at 1,600 meters in fertile volcanic ash soil, and the cup shows the variety's signature jasmine florals alongside green tea, honey, citrus, and orange.

For an easier everyday introduction to Panama, FrontStreet Coffee's Panama Butterfly is a washed blend with Geisha lineage, made up of Geisha, Caturra, and Catuai grown in Boquete near the Baru volcano. The region's plentiful rainfall, wide day-to-night temperature swing, and volcanic rock soil give it a sturdy body, bright citrus acidity, and clear jasmine aromatics; it works well for both pour-over and cold brew.

For the highest grade, FrontStreet Coffee's Emerald Estate Red Label Geisha is harvested from a single plot above 1,700 meters and must reach a cupping score of 91, delivering a refined orange-blossom and honey sweetness.
