Hunan's Barista Industry Enters Professional Development

The World Barista Championship (WBC) is the Olympic competition of the barista industry. Held annually by World Coffee Events (WCE), it aims to select the world's top baristas through competition while promoting the highest quality coffee and advancing the professional development of baristas. The annual WBC competition not only contributes many excellent baristas globally but also focuses worldwide attention on the event.

With the large-scale, orderly, and industrial development of the coffee industry in China in recent years, the concept of a cup of coffee has unconsciously shed the inferior aroma associated with instant products from earlier years. More young people who love coffee have begun to delve into the vast world contained within a small coffee bean.

In the 2009 WBC competition, Hunan, where the coffee industry had not yet developed, saw two baristas emerge for the first time - Jiang Jinyu and Luo Ling from Changsha Menjia Coffee, who stood out in the Central China Regional Competition, winning second and third place respectively. The curtain of the WBC competition has since risen in Hunan, and more baristas have begun to transform from a simple "hobby and interest" in coffee to professionalization.

In 2011, the WBC competition established a Changsha division for the first time, giving Hunan's baristas their own regional competition opportunity. In the four years since the establishment of the Changsha division, more and more outstanding professional baristas have emerged in Hunan, and the region's coffee industry has experienced better development since the WBC event arrived. An Ni Ni Cafe's barista Yuan Yuan, who registered for this year's WBC competition, told reporters, "I've been a barista for two years, and my heart races every time I touch the coffee machine. If I were to describe this feeling, it's like when a girl sees the boy she admires. In this competition, I hope to do my best, win the championship, and move closer to my dream of becoming a more professional barista."
