Guatemala Coffee Beans, Introduction to La Minita Flor Coffee Beans from Antigua Region
Within the coffee growing belt, the Americas region is ideally situated. North America boasts numerous renowned coffee-producing countries, such as Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Among these, Guatemala stands as the world's ninth-largest coffee producer, famous for its high-quality, high-altitude, strictly hard beans.
Guatemala Coffee
Guatemala is located in the southern part of North America, bordering Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. It faces the Gulf of Honduras on the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Two-thirds of Guatemala's territory consists of mountains and plateaus. The western and southern regions belong to the volcanic zone, with more than 30 volcanoes, among which Tajumulco Volcano, at an altitude of 4,211 meters, is the highest peak in Central America. Due to its tropical location, the northern and eastern parts have a tropical rainforest climate, while the southern region has a subtropical climate, with distinct dry and wet seasons throughout the year. Guatemala's tropical rainforests, volcanic geology soils, and diverse microclimates contribute to elegant and lively acidity in its coffee beans, creating a clean taste with distinct, layered coffee flavors.
Antigua Growing Region
Among Guatemala's 22 provinces, 20 grow coffee. Eight of these regions are particularly renowned, divided into five volcanic growing regions and three non-volcanic growing regions, with coffee cultivation averaging above 1,500 meters in altitude. The non-volcanic regions include Huehuetenango, Cobán, and Nuevo Oriente. The volcanic regions include Atitlán, Antigua, Acatenango, Fraijanes, and San Marcos. Among these, Huehuetenango and Antigua are particularly well-known, while Nuevo Oriente is a relatively newer growing region where FrontStreet Coffee currently offers a Geisha coffee bean. Additionally, FrontStreet Coffee's entry-level Guatemala selection comes from the Huehuetenango region.
The Antigua region is surrounded by three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Most coffee is grown in the valley floor at altitudes between 1,500-1,700 meters. The soil in Antigua contains a high percentage of pumice, primarily from the active Fuego volcano, which helps maintain consistent humidity at around 65% year-round. Antigua coffee is shade-grown, mainly to protect coffee trees from frost attacks, as nights from December to February can be quite cold, sometimes experiencing frost. The dense shade and extremely shallow groundwater table create a unique microclimate, which, combined with fertile volcanic soil and appropriate humidity, gives Antigua region coffee its bright acidity and fruit aromas.
La Minita
La Minita traders established their own coffee brand in Guatemala called "La Flor del Cafe," which means "Coffee Flower" and is translated into Chinese as "Flower Goddess." La Minita company is renowned for its excellent cultivation and processing techniques as well as strict quality control, and they do not use pesticides on their own plantations.
La Minita Flower Goddess is produced and processed by the well-known local processing facility Pastores Mill in Guatemala. The coffee quality, from purchasing raw beans to washed and natural processing procedures, follows La Minita's strict screening protocols. The entire process from cultivation to packaging is strictly supervised to ensure that the coffee beans provided by Pastores Mill are of the highest quality.
FrontStreet Coffee's Guatemala La Minita Flower Goddess coffee beans come from the Antigua region, grown at altitudes between 1,200-1,600 meters. The varieties include Bourbon and Caturra, processed using the washed method, offering flavors of berry acidity, citrus, subtle chocolate, and rich complexity.
FrontStreet Coffee's Guatemala Flower Goddess coffee beans use washed processing and are medium roasted. FrontStreet Coffee uses V60 with a 1:15 ratio and 92°C water temperature for brewing. The cup offers subtle berry acidity with citrus and slight chocolate flavors, presenting rich complexity and a smooth mouthfeel.
