The Process of Making Iced Pour-Over Coffee
In the scorching summer, many customers prefer a refreshing and cool iced coffee over a rich, hot one! In this article, FrontStreet Coffee will share how to make iced pour-over coffee!
We can choose the amount of ice to use based on our preferred concentration, because the ice will dilute the concentration, so we will reduce the coffee-to-water ratio to achieve the cooling effect without reducing the flavor it should express. Here, FrontStreet Coffee provides an example brewing recipe: choose 15g of your favorite beans, with a coffee-to-ice-to-water ratio of 1:6:10, which translates to 15g of beans, about 100g of ice, and 150ml of water.
Brewing Steps
1. We will use a slightly finer grind setting than for regular hot pour-over, and grind the coffee beans. (For this brew, FrontStreet Coffee used Kenya Asalia beans, with an EK43S grinder set to 9.5 grind setting.)
2. First, place the ice cubes in the server below, put the filter paper in the dripper, and then pour the ground coffee into the dripper.
3. FrontStreet Coffee used a V60 dripper for this brew. Place 15g of coffee grounds in the dripper with the pre-wetted filter paper. When the water temperature reaches 91-93°C, place the dripper on top of the server and begin brewing. Start by pouring twice the amount of water as the coffee grounds (30ml) for a 30-second bloom.
4. After the bloom, start pouring from the center and gradually work your way outward in circular motions until you reach 100ml of water.
5. When the water level is about to run out, perform the second pour by adding 50ml of water to the center while making small circles within the dripper until the pouring is complete.
6. After the water has finished filtering through, remove the dripper, shake the server to ensure the ice and coffee are perfectly mixed, then pour into a cup and enjoy.
