"Don't change clothes and take photos here, you're annoying all the other customers and us to death. We've talked ourselves hoarse, but you just won't listen!" Recently, a notice posted at a Shanghai café has gone viral online, with many netizens expressing their relief after seeing it!!!!!

The Scenic Café

This coffee shop is located in a two-story Western-style building in the heart of Shanghai. Large glass windows allow ample natural light into every room. The café's outdoor seating on the first floor is adjacent to a corridor and a garden house, with minimalist decor that gives this area a photogenic quality.

Through "constant exposure" on various social media platforms, this coffee shop attracts many people daily who come to take photos and check in. Initially, the café owner thought this was quite good, but as the shop's popularity grew, the owner became increasingly uneasy...

The Growing Problem

Wearing revealing clothing, accompanied by professional photography teams, and carrying entire suitcases of clothes to change into, groups of internet influencers and e-commerce models pose in various corners of the shop... They completely ignore others' feelings, sitting in other people's seats, turning their backsides toward other customers, and groups of people walking around everywhere... They even occupy the restroom to change clothes and touch up makeup, changing one outfit after another, with the next person going in to change immediately after... This seriously affects other customers' dining experience.

At first, the owner politely approached them to stop, but it seemed ineffective. Some even argued, "I bought coffee, so why should you stop me from taking photos?" Later, as the trend of influencers and models coming to the shop for commercial shoots intensified, the owner finally couldn't take it anymore! She posted "warning notices" in various corners of the coffee shop.

Notice written in Chinese with bold characters

"We've told you not to change clothes here for Taobao photos, but you still insist on taking them. 26 yuan for an iced Americano lets you take photos for half a day, driving all the other customers and us crazy. We've talked ourselves hoarse, but you just won't listen! If you want to do Taobao photos, add the owner's WeChat and pay for it, okay? Come take photos after paying, okay?"

Once the notice appeared, other customers expressed their agreement! Customers who came to spend money also felt the owner's helplessness because those influencers and models were truly noisy! Even with noise-canceling headphones, they could still be heard... Some customers also mentioned that some people, in order to photograph the Western-style building, directly ran into the middle of the road to take pictures, which is really dangerous!!!!!!

Owner's Explanation

The owner later explained this notice. Because the owner's wife is from Chongqing, reading this notice in Chongqing dialect sounds natural, but to other customers, it might seem somewhat harsh. They don't oppose people taking photos and checking in, but the precondition is not to disturb other customers' dining experience.

He also explained the last sentence. Commercial photography is acceptable; we can arrange time and space for everyone to take photos, but a certain venue fee needs to be paid~ It's impossible to just order one coffee and then occupy the shop for half a day or even a full day, affecting all customers who come to dine.

The owner also mentioned that the "you're annoying us to death" notice has been posted for over half a year. Now, fewer influencers and models are coming to take photos, perhaps because it's the off-season for commercial photography, or perhaps the notice has had an effect. The owner knew this notice would definitely offend some people, but if they don't stop this behavior now, the problem will only become more severe during the peak commercial photography season.

Business Philosophy

While these influencers coming to take photos might bring some business, they are not returning customers. A shop that relies solely on influencers for traffic certainly won't last long. Only by producing quality products and providing a comfortable environment can you attract customers - these are the most important factors.
