Pour-Over Coffee Robotic Arm Makes Debut at Beijing Winter Olympics Venue: Will Future Baristas Be Replaced by Robots?
As the domestic test events for Olympic ice hockey enter the countdown phase, Beijing's Wukesong Sports Center is methodically preparing various aspects of its operations. Due to the pandemic, this Olympic venue has introduced various technologies and robots for logistics and material distribution, minimizing personnel contact while fully meeting all needs within the closed-loop environment.
In addition to logistics robots, the venue has thoughtfully prepared "Big White" robots to make freshly ground, hand-brewed coffee on site! The arrival of "Big White" ensures that professional coffee-making services can be provided in a contactless manner.
This robot is a collaboration between OrionStar, Deb Group, and Gongboshi. The robot uses self-developed full-chain AI technology to deeply restore all the detailed steps of hand-brewed coffee. According to reports, the robot can simultaneously operate both left and right robotic arms. The left arm handles the placement of filter cups, filter papers, and sharing pots, as well as weighing and grinding coffee beans. The right arm is responsible for brewing and serving. Finally, both arms work together to clean brewing equipment and the counter.
In most people's impressions, coffee machine brewing is quite simple, often just injecting a fixed amount of hot water into ground coffee particles. However, "Big White" is different from the machine brewing technology we've known before! It will replicate the details of hand-brewed coffee in a stable state, including blooming, segmented small water flow circular pouring, and shaking the coffee liquid in the pot for even mixing. Before serving, it also checks the coffee concentration to ensure consistent quality whether it's the first cup or the hundredth cup.
Although hand-brewed coffee robots are no longer particularly novel, robot coffee shops and robot coffee kiosks have been emerging domestically and internationally since last year. These coffee robots each have their own strengths, from simply adding milk to coffee to creating latte art, from monotonously injecting water into coffee powder to completely replicating the extraction steps of hand-brewed coffee. This undoubtedly reflects that more and more people have become more particular about coffee, as well as the industry's pursuit of stable output for hand-brewed coffee.
