Shenzhen Heytea Milk Tea Store's Thousand-Yuan Fruit Juice Investigated for False Advertising! Why Are Chaoshan Olives So Expensive?
Shenzhen Market Supervision Investigates "Thousand-Yuan Drink" for False Advertising
According to an official Weibo post by the Shenzhen Market Supervision on November 26th: Regarding the "thousand-yuan drink" situation reported on short video platforms, the Shenzhen Market Supervision Bureau conducted continuous investigations and evidence collection against "Yecui Mountain · Molecular Juice" beverage store, operated by Shenzhen Haolin Catering Co., Ltd., from November 22nd to November 24th. After verification, the store's actual purchase price of raw materials did not match their advertised prices. The company has now been investigated and penalized for alleged false advertising violations, with follow-up processing updates to be continuously announced.
The company had previously claimed that the juice cost thousands of yuan because the olives used as raw materials were fruits from century-old trees, with purchase prices reaching over 800 yuan per jin (500g). The production process was also extremely refined, requiring 3 hours of preparation time. The cups used for packaging were also 450ml "treasure of the store" bottles with golden lettering.
When the news broke, many netizens expressed great confusion about why a bottle of juice could earn hundreds of yuan in profit! They also didn't understand how a bottle printed with the golden character for "expensive" (贵) could become the "treasure of the store"... Meanwhile, some netizens suggested this was reverse marketing - one cup of juice could trend on social media for several days, wouldn't this be a huge profit?
Indeed, in the following days, I noticed many people went to purchase this sky-priced drink and posted it on social media. One post read: "Since this was my first time drinking olive juice, I can't evaluate whether it tastes good or not, but what do you think about such expensive juice? (Truly, money can change 'taste perception')."
Once the Weibo post went viral, netizens immediately commented: "I still have the receipt for the olive juice, can I get a refund now?" This incident once again reminds consumers to always consume rationally!!!!
