The "Four Cats" Coffee Company
"Four Cats" is a company specializing in Yunnan small-bean coffee, integrating cultivation, processing and production, online marketing, and direct store sales, with a focus on instant coffee.
Comparison with Nestlé Coffee
Which tastes better, Four Cats or Nestlé? Honestly, they are quite similar, each with its own strengths. If you want a richer taste, choose Nestlé. If you want to support domestic products, choose Four Cats.
The core difference: Nestlé blends Arabica beans from Yunnan with Robusta beans from Hainan, while Four Cats uses raw materials that are over 98% Yunnan high-mountain coffee beans.
Coffee Bean Characteristics
Robusta beans are known for a rich, mellow, bitter taste. Added in the right amount, they boost a coffee's body and mellowness; added in excess, they make the cup bitter and hard to swallow.
Four Cats uses Catimor beans grown in Yunnan. Catimor is a hybrid of Arabica and Robusta lineages — in flavor not as refined as pure Arabica, but clearly better than pure Robusta. Drink Yunnan high-mountain Catimor on its own and you will notice slight fruit acidity plus nutty and herbal notes.
Health Considerations
To suit mainstream tastes, both brands typically add sugar and non-dairy creamer. Excessive daily intake raises the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease, so it is best not to exceed 2 cups of instant coffee a day. Rinse your mouth with water afterward to reduce the risk of tooth decay.
For a healthier cup, try drip coffee bags made from freshly roasted beans — for example, the FrontStreet Coffee Drip Coffee Bags sold at FrontStreet Coffee's flagship store. They are all made from freshly roasted coffee: roasted, cooled, properly ground, packaged, and individually wrapped. Each box holds 10 packets of 10g each, with a best tasting period of 30 days.
Among the drip bags there are also specialty beans from Yunnan's high-altitude plantations: high-quality Catimor from Baoshan, grown at 1450-1550m from fully ripe cherries dried by natural sun processing.
Without milk, the coffee shows red-berry sweetness and acidity, rich dark chocolate, roasted-nut aroma, and caramel-like sweetness. With milk added, it turns into a berry milkshake with chocolate and caramel nuts.
Drip Coffee Bag Brewing Method
Brewing steps:
1. Make sure your cup is large enough that the drip bag does not touch the extracted coffee liquid during brewing.
2. Open the drip bag and pull out the paper hooks on both sides, hanging it on the cup.
3. First pour 30ml of water and wait 20-30 seconds for the grounds to bloom.
4. Then pour twice more at 10-second intervals, about 60ml each time.
5. When brewing is complete, remove and discard the bag, and enjoy your healthy, aromatic cup of coffee.
FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation: Go Beyond Instant with Yunnan Beans
Instant sachets are convenient, but Yunnan's real character shines in whole beans. The FrontStreet Coffee Yunnan Small-Bean from Baoshan — washed and roasted medium — is the ideal first taste of the region: soft nut and chocolate sweetness with a gentle plum acidity and the clean, mellow balance Yunnan is known for, at a very approachable price. For a clearer, more expressive cup, step up to the FrontStreet Coffee 2013 Natural Typica from the Lincang estate, made only from fully ripe red cherries and naturally dried, layering dark berry, caramel, chocolate, and dried apricot over a black tea finish. And if you want Yunnan in your espresso machine, FrontStreet Coffee's Black Cocoa Blend pairs Yunnan small-bean with Brazil Cerrado for nutty, brown-sugar sweetness with chocolate and citrus — balanced, forgiving, and perfect for lattes.
