El Salvador's Coffee Industry: A Brief Overview
Coffee is vital to El Salvador's economic growth, serving as a catalyst for road and railway construction. Although it is no longer as important to today's economy, coffee remains one of its signature crops. Coffee plantations occupy 12% of El Salvador's cultivated land and employ approximately 135,000 workers.

FrontStreet Coffee would like to share with everyone some coffee estates from El Salvador.
Potosí Estate: A Premier Coffee Destination
First and foremost is the Potosí Estate, located in San Ignacio Los Pozitos, Chalatenango Province, El Salvador.
While many other importers focus their El Salvador sourcing on larger, primarily Bourbon variety farms in and around Santa Ana, high-quality coffee beans are actually produced in more remote areas of El Salvador as well, with Chalatenango farms being a typical representative.
Don Ignacio, the estate owner, has a long history in agriculture: before starting coffee cultivation in 2000, he grew timber and tomatoes, and began his farms La Roxanita and Los Pocitos with 500 coffee trees. He grows coffee on approximately 5 manzanas of fertile soil in El Salvador and produces excellent coffee year after year: in 2011, 2013, and 2015, his coffee won first place in the Cup of Excellence (CoE) competition.
He produces a large number of heirloom varieties, some processed through washing and others through honey processing.
Finca Lemus: A Sustainable Coffee Haven
The Finca Lemus estate in El Salvador's Apaneca mountain range, which was introduced in previous articles, is also one of FrontStreet Coffee's favorite estates.
Finca Lemus Bella Vista is located in Concepción de Ataco, Ahuachapán Province, El Salvador. Finca Lemus Bella Vista is a 37-acre farm owned by Thelma de Gutierrez and managed by her husband José Enrique Gutiérrez. This husband-and-wife team utilizes their experience as third-generation coffee producers to improve the farm's productivity and health, including producing and applying microbial compost tea on the farm. In the past two years, the couple has also diversified the farm through bean production, which ensures the family's food security and serves as a nitrogen-fixing agent to promote coffee plant health and cherry production. The farm's altitude is 1,200 meters, and coffee varieties include Bourbon, Catuai, and SARCHIMOR.
Finca El Corozo: Resilience and Quality
In addition to the two estates mentioned above, El Salvador's Finca El Corozo is also very appealing. This delicious coffee, grown in volcanic soil between 4,500 to 5,300 feet altitude, is full of complex flavors. Finca El Corozo is a farm located on the slopes of Ilamatepec mountain in Santa Ana Province, El Salvador. The area was devastated by a volcanic eruption in 2005 - with volcanic ash covering the farm to a depth of over one foot. Fernando Lima rebuilt the farm, planting two varieties: Pacamara and Bourbon, thanks in part to the fertile volcanic soil. Finca El Corozo is sourced and directly traded by KIN + ILK in partnership with Clifton Coffee.
Finca Piemonte Millenium Coffee from El Salvador
A complex and balanced coffee with hints of creamy orange, cherry, and pleasant sweetness.
Even within a single country, every plot of soil is different and produces a unique local batch of coffee.
