How to Get the Limited Edition Starbucks Roastery Barista Bear New Merchandise
Starbucks has been remarkably active recently. On July 5th, Starbucks China's official Weibo account released a brand-new computer bag design. On July 8th, they launched newly designed reusable plastic straws with charms. That same evening, Starbucks Reserve Shanghai Roastery hosted a Master Bartender Night.
Just today, Starbucks introduced another new product. Around 2:32 PM on July 12th, Starbucks Reserve Shanghai Roastery released their limited edition bear doll.
According to Starbucks Reserve Shanghai Roastery's official Weibo account, this bear doll is a collaboration between Starbucks Shanghai Roastery and Steiff, named "Bearoasta™ Baker Bear." It will be available for limited sale starting July 13th. This Bearoasta™ Baker Bear is globally limited to 1,000 pieces and can only be purchased in person at the Starbucks Shanghai Roastery.
The official Weibo post also revealed that each limited edition Baker Bear is crafted from premium, soft mohair. Each bear features its own unique number, a white ear tag indicating its limited edition status, and a golden ear buckle. The bears will be sold in blind box format, meaning buyers won't know which numbered bear they're getting until after purchase.
The Bearoasta™ Baker Bear wears a denim long-sleeved shirt with a Starbucks coffee roaster's iconic leather apron layered on top, plus a coffee-colored flat cap. Not only does it closely resemble the baker in the photos, but it's also incredibly adorable.
Some netizens have begun expressing their desire to own one of these bears, while others feel sad that they're only available at Starbucks Shanghai Roastery, lamenting that they "don't deserve to have one."
Previous Starbucks × Steiff Collaboration
The previous Starbucks × Steiff collaboration was on July 31, 2020, which also featured a bear doll. However, unlike this time, last year's was the "Bearista Barista Bear" without a hat or long-sleeved denim shirt, only featuring the same apron as Starbucks Roastery baristas. Each bear had the Starbucks Shanghai Roastery black label logo on its foot bottom and was globally limited to 500 pieces.
When last year's "Bear Factory Director" Bearista Barista Bear was released, it quickly won the affection of many netizens, who called it extremely cute and wanted to "adopt" one. Even Starbucks employees came asking if "partner discounts could be used." However, some netizens were deterred by the price. One commenter mentioned that a limited edition Bearista Barista Bear apparently cost 1,599 yuan, leaving some heartbroken on the spot.
Market Comparison and Pricing
Speaking of bear dolls, MANNER released a panda series on July 8th and even displayed inflatable panda dolls at their riverside stores. However, due to severe weather in Shanghai, it became a running joke that "the pandas wanted to jump into the river." Meanwhile, Starbucks went directly for a limited edition bear doll.
But according to netizens' comments on Weibo, Starbucks' limited edition bears come with a hefty price tag of over a thousand yuan each. Seeing that price really sends a chill down your spine.
Final Thoughts
Putting aside the price, it's really about buying into the sentiment. After all, Starbucks' mascot isn't the mermaid on their logo, but a bear. Many netizens might be surprised to learn this. But this bear is just too cute—adorably breaking the rules. If only it were available outside of Shanghai, I'd really want to own one. What about you? Are you charmed by this bear too?
