2021 New Harvest Hacienda La Esmeralda Red Label Geisha Coffee Bean Flavor and Taste Review - 2021 Blue Label Discontinued
In late April, FrontStreet Coffee's remaining 300 grams of Red Label Geisha was sold out exclusively for in-store consumption. Then, we experienced more than a month without Red Label. Today, Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Red Label Geisha coffee beans are back!!!
New Red Label for the New Year
Just yesterday, FrontStreet Coffee received the new 2021 harvest season Red Label Geisha coffee beans. FrontStreet Coffee immediately roasted samples upon arrival. This batch of Red Label Geisha comes from the Mario lot of Hacienda La Esmeralda, which belongs to the renowned Jaramillo sub-estate of La Esmeralda. This region is full of glory – in 2004, Hacienda La Esmeralda rose to fame with the Geisha from this very lot.
Another noteworthy development is that in 2021, Hacienda La Esmeralda adjusted its Geisha coffee grading system. Starting from this harvest season, Hacienda La Esmeralda will discontinue the Blue Label batch (Geisha 1500). [Drink the Blue Label while you still can, as it will become discontinued!]
Returning to the Red Label Geisha coffee beans, FrontStreet Coffee has once again selected the slow natural processed batch. Thanks to Hacienda La Esmeralda's exquisite processing techniques and strict quality control standards, the slow natural processed Red Label Geisha exhibits richer fruit notes, with excellent sweetness and acidity. Of course, it's impossible to overlook Geisha's signature sweet fruit aroma and jasmine fragrance.
Hacienda La Esmeralda's quality control is unquestionable. The green coffee beans are plump and full, featuring the distinctive elongated, pointed-at-both-ends appearance of Geisha coffee beans that makes them easily recognizable. No obvious defective beans can be found.
Tasting the New Harvest Red Label
Due to the current COVID-19 situation in Guangzhou, FrontStreet Coffee's store is operating in a limited capacity. Therefore, this "first taste" of the Red Label was tearfully accepted by FrontStreet Coffee's store team members (special thanks to the roaster at our Qingyuan roasting plant who worked overtime to roast samples immediately after receiving the beans).
Also due to the pandemic, this cupping was conducted using individual cups – one person, one spoon, one small cup. The dry aroma presents notes of dried fruit. After adding water, the wet aroma releases honey and berry-like sweet scents. After breaking the crust, jasmine fragrance emerges.
Through slurping, one can taste citrus, berry, honey, and grape flavors. As the temperature decreases, the honey sweetness becomes particularly prominent, accompanied by white ginger flower aroma.
Since the coffee beans are too fresh, the pour-over portion requires several days of resting before proceeding. Please look forward to our next review!!!
