Price Discrepancies Between Luckin Coffee Stores

Previously, I wrote an article titled "Do Luckin's different stores have different product prices?" which cited information from the WeChat public account "IQ Tax Research Center": When ordering from the IQ Tax Research Center, it was discovered that when placing orders at the same store at the same time, in-store pickup was actually more expensive than delivery!

Yesterday, two topics regarding Luckin's pricing issues - #SomeLuckinStoresHaveHigherPickupPricesThanDelivery# and #LuckinRespondsToDifferentStorePricing# - made it to the Weibo trending list.

According to this trending list, some consumers recently reported that the same beverage they purchased at Luckin Coffee not only became more expensive than before the New Year, but the price for "in-store pickup" was also 1 to 3 yuan more expensive than "delivery."

The trending list information shows that on May 20th, reporters investigated some Luckin Coffee stores in Beijing and found that the price "inversion" phenomenon indeed exists. Regarding this issue, as mentioned in previous articles: Luckin Coffee's store pricing issues are caused by different store pricing strategies.

On May 21st, regarding the inconsistent prices at different Luckin stores, reporters from Beijing News Shell Finance contacted Luckin staff, who stated: "Due to different logistics, operations, and other costs, different stores have differential pricing."

Additionally, regarding why Luckin beverage prices differ even for stores less than 500 meters apart, Luckin customer service stated: Luckin Coffee stores can apply to their regional supervisors for price adjustments according to their own situation, with beverage original prices eligible for increases of up to 3 yuan.

All along, Luckin Coffee has attracted numerous consumers with its low prices and diverse coupon distribution. However, starting from April last year, it was revealed that behind Luckin Coffee's low prices were massive financial frauds, which subsequently became a hot topic of daily discussion.

In fact, when it was first established, Luckin Coffee also claimed to "treat Chinese people to coffee." Specifically how? For example, Luckin Coffee frequently distributed coupons at 18% and 38% discounts, as well as buy-one-get-one-free activities. To promote its app, Luckin Coffee also launched a campaign where inviting friends would get you free coffee. Additionally, according to data publicly released by Luckin Coffee, in July 2018, Luckin Coffee's sales volume exceeded 18 million cups, with sales revenue of 59.17 million yuan. With significant discount力度, the average selling price per cup was only about 3.3 yuan, equivalent to the cost of a bottle of mineral water.

Now, Luckin Coffee is quietly raising prices. So, will Luckin, which most loves to give coupons, still be favored by consumers after raising prices?
