How to Use Drip Coffee Bags and Make Cold Brew Coffee?
Pour-over coffee has now become an essential skill for coffee enthusiasts. However, some people prefer not to purchase so many coffee brewing devices. To enable more customers to easily enjoy delicious, fresh coffee at home without too much effort and complexity, FrontStreet Coffee has introduced several different varieties of drip coffee bags. This time, FrontStreet Coffee will explain how to brew drip coffee bags and how to use them to make cold brew coffee.
How to Choose Drip Coffee Bags?
1. Production Date: Freshly ground coffee powder is the freshest. Drip coffee bags are produced by carefully roasting and finely grinding coffee beans, then immediately sealing them in bags. You should try to buy bags with roasting dates as recent as possible. The taste will deteriorate if it's been more than 2 months.
2. Completeness of Information: Information about coffee beans includes variety, grind size, origin, roaster, and other details.
Advantages of Drip Coffee:
Compared to instant coffee, drip coffee has a richer flavor. Drip coffee offers more choices, allowing you to experience coffees from different origins, processing methods, and roast levels. You can also taste more unique specialty coffees.
2. Drip coffee contains no additives like flavors or creamer, making it healthier.
3. It's affordable, brews quickly and conveniently, is easy to carry, and doesn't require preparation of brewing equipment.
FrontStreet Coffee's drip bag series offers various regional flavors, such as Ethiopian, Brazilian, Honduran, Colombian, and more. Of course, we have other types of coffee beans as well. If customers want to make any coffee into drip bags, FrontStreet Coffee can prepare them according to their needs. For example, a few days ago, a customer enjoyed a Golden Mandheling in our shop and was satisfied with the taste but didn't want to grind beans at home, so we made Golden Mandheling drip bags on the spot for the customer. This time, FrontStreet Coffee will use the popular Yirgacheffe drip bags to demonstrate the brewing method and steps for making cold brew.
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Drip Bags
Yirgacheffe, in the ancient Ethiopian language, (Yirga) means "settle down," and (Cheffe) means "wetland." Therefore, Yirgacheffe has the meaning of "let us settle down and make a living in this wetland." It was originally the name of a small town in Ethiopia, the homeland of coffee. The altitude here is around 1700-2200 meters, with lower temperatures. Coffee grows relatively slowly, giving it enough time to accumulate more nutritional components and flavor compounds. Due to the unique flavor and high quality of the coffee beans produced here, Ethiopian farmers take pride in their coffee bearing the Yirgacheffe flavor.
In 2004, to promote the country's coffee, the Ethiopian government even patented the "Yirgacheffe" regional name. Now, Yirgacheffe coffee has become synonymous with Ethiopian specialty coffee. Friends who have tried Yirgacheffe probably first think of its bright, uplifting lemon acidity, floral aromas, and honey-like sweet fragrance, with soft fruit acids and citrus notes, creating a refreshing and pleasant taste.
FrontStreet Coffee's Drip Bag Brewing Steps:
1. Tear open the outer packaging, take out the drip bag inside, tear open the bag's opening, and pull out the small "ears" on both sides to hang it on the cup.
2. Choose a cup with a mouth that isn't too wide, otherwise the two ears of the drip coffee bag might not hang properly. FrontStreet Coffee uses cups with a mouth diameter of about 8-9cm.
3. Similar to pour-over coffee, use a ratio of 1:15 to 1:16, so the brewed coffee liquid should reach 140-150 milliliters. Use water temperature around 90°C. If you have a thermometer or temperature-controlled kettle, prioritize using them. If not, you can estimate the temperature - generally, after boiling water in a kettle, turn off the heat source, open the lid, and wait 2-3 minutes for the water to reach around 90°C (at room temperature of 28°C).
4. After the bloom, directly pour water until completion. For more precision, you can also pour in two stages. The amount of water depends on the selected cup. FrontStreet Coffee chose a 300ml glass cup, pouring in a small circular stream until the cup is 7/10 full.
5. After brewing is complete, remove the drip bag. It can only be used once because the substances in the coffee powder have already been extracted. If you brew it again, there's nothing left to extract, and the taste will be very watery. Don't feel that using it only once is wasteful. Drip bags sold on the market today are basically guaranteed to be freshly ground, and the price is also reasonable.
FrontStreet Coffee's Cold Brew Steps Using Drip Bags:
1. Prepare a clean, sealed container with a lid. Tear open the outer packaging, take out the drip bag inside, tear open the bag's opening, and pour the coffee powder directly into the container. Keep the drip bag for use as a filter after extraction is complete.
2. The coffee-to-water ratio for cold brew is 1:10. One drip bag contains 10g of coffee, so we prepare 100ml of ice water to pour into the container.
3. Cover with a lid and shake well, then place in the refrigerator for low-temperature extraction for 12-14 hours.
4. (After extraction is complete) Take out the drip bag, pull open its ears and hang it on your favorite cup. Pour the cold-brewed coffee into the drip bag to filter out the coffee grounds, then enjoy.

Catimor Coffee Variety: How to Brew China Yunnan Catimor Arabica Coffee?
At FrontStreet Coffee's Yunnan coffee bean plantation, we primarily grow Typica and a small amount of Bourbon. Yunnan coffee varieties are dominated by Catimor coffee beans, which are hybrid varieties infused with Robusta genes. This is distinctly different from major coffee-producing regions that mainly focus on traditional Typica. Catimor has consistently ranked among the top ten in domestic Yunnan green bean competitions, while pure Arabica varieties with undeniable quality are nowhere to be seen.
