Coffee enthusiasts have likely heard of the Clever Coffee Dripper brewing device. What makes this brewer so "clever"? Today, FrontStreet Coffee will explain exactly what makes the Clever Coffee Dripper so clever and discuss its brewing principles.
What is the Clever Coffee Dripper?
The Clever Coffee Dripper originated in Taiwan and its full name is the Clever Coffee Dripper. It's a filter cup with a controllable switch valve at the bottom. Because of the word "Clever" in its name and its ease of use, "Clever Coffee Dripper" became its nickname. (Technically, only the Mr. Clever brand filter cup can be called the Clever Coffee Dripper, while similar cups from other brands can only be called switch cups or Clever-style cups.) The name "Coffee Dripper" indicates that this cup can be used as a pour-over filter cup.
Many coffee enthusiasts who visit FrontStreet Coffee ask if there's a brewing device that allows them to enjoy pour-over coffee without the complexity of using a V60. In such cases, FrontStreet Coffee's baristas will recommend the Clever Coffee Dripper.
Advantages of the Clever Coffee Dripper
1. Dual functionality: It can serve as both a regular filter cup for pour-over brewing and as an immersion device for coffee extraction.
2. Simple operation: Using the immersion brewing method makes it less susceptible to pouring technique and method, making it more beginner-friendly for those who find it difficult to improve flow control and pouring skills in a short time. As long as you fix parameters like coffee-to-water ratio, grind size, water temperature, and time, you can basically get delicious and replicable coffee.
Principles of the Clever Coffee Dripper
The key design lies in the piston valve at the bottom of the filter cup. When hot water is poured into the filter cup, water pressure automatically closes the piston valve to stop the flow, allowing the coffee grounds to fully immerse. After completing the immersion, place the filter cup on a mug; the base is pressed to trigger the piston valve to open, and the coffee will slowly flow into the cup.
