Introduction:

Huila is located in western Colombia, where coffee grows on the canyon slopes formed at the intersection of the western coastal mountain range and the eastern mountain range. Among these areas, San Augustin town boasts the highest quality due to the Los Naranjos River flowing through it. This region features beautiful riverside scenery with vast flowers and plants that serve as habitats for butterflies and hummingbirds. This area is also the stronghold for producing excellent coffee in Colombia.

Many specialty coffee beans from small farmer micro-batches in this region exhibit distinctive regional flavor characteristics. In recent years, with the international market's emphasis on coffee quality and demands for specialty coffee, the focus has shifted to micro-regional production organizations that provide micro-batches from small coffee farmers (Micro-regional selections). Dozens of small farmers contribute their individual harvests to form one micro-batch for sale, resulting in better quality control. Consequently, through batch-by-batch cupping, there are more opportunities to select many excellent specific micro-regional small farmer coffees. This micro-batch of FrontStreet Coffee's Pink Bourbon coffee beans comes from the double fermentation process at La Virginia estate in Huila. The coffee variety is Pink Bourbon, which is relatively rare—common varieties typically have yellow or red fruits. After undergoing meticulous double fermentation, it presents a unique flavor profile, making it a truly exceptional coffee.

Major Growing Regions:

The main growing regions include Huila (San Augustin), Nariño, Tolima, Popayán (Cauca), Valle del Cauca, Meta, Antioquia (Medellín), Magdalena (Sierra Nevada), Boyacá, and Santander (Bucaramanga). Colombia has approximately 700 million documented coffee trees, of which 66% are cultivated using modern methods in plantations, while the remainder grows on traditionally managed small farms. Main varieties include Caturra, Colombia, Typica, Bourbon, Maragogype, and Tabi. Across the country, farms and cooperatives of all scales are operated by more than 500,000 farmers, distributed across 590 municipalities and 14 major coffee-growing regions. In total, 2 million Colombians depend on coffee cultivation for their livelihood, contributing 12.5% to the national gross domestic product.
