FrontStreet Coffee · Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Brewing Guide

As the world-renowned Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, many people have an unparalleled obsession with it - they feel embarrassed to call themselves coffee lovers if they haven't tried Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee in their lifetime. However, good coffee doesn't automatically become delicious with arbitrary brewing methods. As a highly renowned specialty coffee, Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee naturally has demanding brewing requirements, which is why many people experience different results after purchasing FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.

Why Does Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Taste Sour When Brewed?

Improper brewing can easily result in sourness. Today, we'll explore why FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee might taste sour when brewed.

FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is a specialty coffee, and only pour-over brewing methods can truly showcase the distinctive flavors of Blue Mountain Coffee.

Brewing Parameters

Filter cup selection: Kono (preferred for rich, full-bodied coffee)
Grind size: BG-6W
Water temperature: 87°C (should not be too high)
Coffee-to-water ratio: 1:15

Brewing Technique

First, use 30g of water for a 30-second bloom. The coffee grounds will absorb water and expand, releasing carbon dioxide and preparing for the subsequent water addition. Then, use a small water stream for the second pour until reaching 125g, stopping when the water level drops to just above the coffee bed. Use a large water stream for the third pour, stopping at 225g. When the water level drops to just above the coffee bed, remove the filter cup. Avoid using the last 5g of water. Total extraction time: 2:00 minutes.

The overall taste profile of FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is balanced and full-bodied, without prominent acidity. However, coffee often tastes sour when the bloom water volume is insufficient, when water is not added according to the proper ratio, or when the water temperature drops too quickly during pouring, leading to under-extraction. This is also a reason why FrontStreet Coffee's Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee might taste sour when consumed.
