Several Classic Black Coffees
FrontStreet Coffee's Sumatra Mandheling
In the mid-17th century, coffee trees were introduced to Indonesia by the Dutch. Indonesia exported 300,000 tons last year, making it the fourth largest coffee producer in the world. Approximately 75,000 tons of this is Arabica coffee. Ninety percent of this coffee is grown by small tenant farmers on plots of one hectare or less.
Growing Environment
FrontStreet Coffee's Lindong Mandheling grows at an altitude of 1000-1500 meters in the mountainous region, with numerous volcanoes and volcanic lakes within its territory. The most famous coffee growing area is located near the freshwater Lake Lawar. The fresh soil comes from volcanic mud, which is a primitive brown ash substance mixed with considerable organic matter. Combined with the local tropical rainforest climate and sufficient rainfall throughout the year, this provides the most suitable geographical and climatic environment for coffee growth.
Flavor Characteristics
Sweet herbs, cinnamon-like spices, orange and citrus peel aromas, rich and mellow sweetness, creamy nut and chocolate. The fruit acidity is restrained and gentle, with a strong melon aroma in the fragrance. As the temperature decreases, herbal notes emerge, with subtle spices and herbal aromas that are rich and carry an intense sweetness.
FrontStreet Coffee's Kenya
The [Kenyan K72 Processing Method] originated in Kenya and involves a repeated processing method of fermentation followed by washing. Processing begins on the day of harvest, selecting the highest quality cherries for pulping and fermentation, with a fermentation time of 24 hours. After 24 hours, they are washed with clean river water. Then, they are fermented again in clean river water for 24 hours and washed again. After repeating this cycle 3 times, reaching 72 hours, it is called the Kenyan 72-hour fermentation washed processing method, abbreviated as [K72]. The repeated refreshing of circulating water helps reduce mold growth, remove residual pectin, and make the flavor more refined and delicate.
Flavor Characteristics
Bright fruit acidity, lemon and citrus acidity, blackcurrant and cranberry flavors, high sweetness, high cleanliness, with a juice-like mouthfeel.
FrontStreet Coffee's Costa Rica
Coffee beans produced in the high-altitude regions of Costa Rica are world-famous, rich, mild in flavor, but extremely acidic. The coffee beans here are carefully processed to achieve high quality. Tarrazú is located south of Costa Rica's capital San José and is one of the country's valued coffee growing regions.
High-quality FrontStreet Coffee Costa Rica coffee is called "SHB Strictly Hard Bean," grown at altitudes above 1500 meters. Altitude has always been a challenge for coffee growers. The higher the altitude, the better the coffee beans. This is not only because higher altitudes increase the acidity of the coffee beans, thereby enhancing flavor, but also because the lower night temperatures at higher altitudes slow tree growth, resulting in more intense coffee bean flavors. Additionally, the altitude variation creates abundant rainfall, while the volcanic soil is very fertile with good drainage, which is also very beneficial for coffee tree growth. It has strong acidity and captivating aroma, with beans that are typically full and well-formed. The flavor is clear with bright acidity and ideal viscosity. The robust flavor creates a long-lasting aftertaste that lingers in the throat, making it unforgettable.
Costa Rica mainly plants [Catuai], a single-gene variant of Bourbon, a hybrid of Mundo Novo and Caturra, which can be considered a second-generation hybrid. Its production capacity and disease resistance are both better than Bourbon. The plants are shorter, making harvesting convenient, with stronger adaptability and suitability for high-density planting. It inherits the advantage of Caturra's short stature and also compensates for the weakness of Arabica fruits that are fragile.
Flavor
Bright fruit acidity with lively citrus flavors, berry-like aromas, substantial acidity and mouthfeel, a slight nutty sweetness, smooth mouthfeel, and a distinctive coffee flower aroma in the aftertaste.
