Types of Mexican Coffee Beans and How to Properly Drink Mexican Coffee
FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Mexican Coffee
Mixteca Alta del Pacifico is an organic coffee cooperative located in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca state, home to the Mixteca and Zapoteca indigenous peoples. The cooperative's headquarters is in the town of Santa María Yucuhiti, and its members include 172 producers. Most producers own 1 to 3 hectares of land at altitudes between 900 and 1700 meters.
Producers in this region have adopted shade-grown cultivation methods, using local trees to shade their coffee plants. They also value the region's long-standing tradition of hand-picking, ensuring that only ripe coffee cherries are harvested. Mexico primarily cultivates Arabica varieties.
Each farm has its own wet mill, with a hand-cranked depulper and small cement fermentation tanks, as well as a drying patio that can be either next to the house or on the roof. All members adhere to organic standards: growing coffee without chemical pesticides or fertilizers, using methods and materials that have minimal environmental impact.
Mixteca recently established a cupping laboratory, and Q graders from the United States also spent time teaching the QC laboratory technicians sample roasting. We are delighted to work with this team, as they produce truly impressive coffee that stands out for its rich body (perfect for espresso) and sweet fruity notes.
Cupping Notes
Bright, juicy acidity with creamy body. Floral notes, milk chocolate, caramel, lemon, grape, and cherry.
