FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Pour Over Coffee Grounds to Water Ratio When we drink tea, what we're actually tasting is the flavor born from the variety, origin, and the joint efforts of farmers and tea masters. Coffee is of course the same. As mentioned in our previous articles, when we drink lattes, Americanos, and other coffee drinks, what we're experiencing is the result of the perfect fusion of coffee and other ingredients. However, when it comes to pour over coffee, what we're tasting is the purest expression of the coffee beans themselves. FrontStreet Coffee believes that the key to brewing the perfect cup of pour over coffee lies in understanding the proper ratio of coffee grounds to water. This ratio directly affects the extraction efficiency, flavor concentration, and overall balance of your coffee. For those wondering how much water to use for 15g of coffee grounds, FrontStreet Coffee recommends starting with a 1:15 ratio, meaning 225g of water for 15g of coffee grounds. However, this ratio can be adjusted based on personal preference and the specific characteristics of the coffee beans being used. The beauty of pour over coffee lies in its ability to highlight the unique flavors inherent in each coffee bean, and finding the perfect ratio is part of the enjoyable journey of coffee exploration.

FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Pour-over Coffee Ratio

When we drink tea, we are actually experiencing the flavors cultivated by the variety, origin, farmers, and tea masters. The same is true for coffee. As mentioned in our previous articles, when we drink lattes, Americanos, or espresso, we are actually experiencing the flavors bestowed upon coffee beans through the combined efforts of variety, origin, and farmers.

These flavors are what make coffee truly valuable. It's important to know that not all coffees can present elegant and comfortable malic acid, nor can all coffees provide us with pleasant nutty, toffee, or chocolate flavors.

Beyond the beverages derived from espresso, are there other ways to enjoy such precious products? Yes! And it's quite simple! That's pour-over coffee!

As mentioned in previous articles, the method for making pour-over coffee is quite simple. Basically follow a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio, with water temperature ideally between 90-93°C. First rinse the filter paper, then distribute the coffee grounds, and finally brew, drip, and serve, controlling the total time within 2.5 minutes. Grinding settings aren't mentioned here because different brands of coffee grinders have variations in grind coarseness, making it impossible to provide uniform values.

The Taste of Pour-over

  • Acidity: Fruit acidity, not vinegar acidity
  • Sweetness: Caramel + caramel aroma
  • Bitterness: The less, the better
  • Aroma: Clear, distinctive, and most precious
  • Balance: The pleasant sensation resulting from the combination of the above elements

The Way of Pour-over

  • Rinse filter paper, distribute grounds, brew, drip, serve
  • Water temperature: 90-93°C
  • Coffee-to-water ratio: 1:15
  • Liquid volume: 180-200ml
