FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Panama Geisha Coffee

Hacienda La Esmeralda is located in the Boquete mountain region of Panama. The Boquete mountain region sits at an altitude of 1,200 meters, with the famous Baru Volcano situated right there. The mild climate, fertile volcanic soil, appropriate rainfall, and variable microclimates have earned the Boquete mountain region the reputation of a paradise for coffee. Boquete was developed early, with foreign residents accounting for as much as 15% of the population. Most estate owners are advanced international white immigrants who are generally well-educated, highly educated, and capable of connecting with the international community. They place great importance on quality coffee development. Hacienda La Esmeralda stands out among them.

The first owner of Hacienda La Esmeralda was Rudolf A. Peterson, a Swedish-American banker who originally purchased the estate merely for vacation and retirement purposes. He probably never anticipated that the estate would become world-famous and even become a representative of specialty coffee. There are two reasons why Hacienda La Esmeralda is world-famous: one is Geisha (which swept through the coffee world with hurricane-like force; this coffee revolution came with such momentum that even the long-reigning king and queen of the coffee kingdom—Jamaica Blue Mountain and Hawaii Kona—had to step aside), and the second is repeatedly setting amazing transaction price records!

Panama Geisha growing altitude: 1,500-1,650 meters. The unique growing environment creates its distinctive flavor:

Dry aroma: tea fragrance, floral notes (magnolia, tulip), vanilla plants, milky aroma, brown sugar sweetness, premium champagne-like aroma that rises upward.

Wet aroma: apricot, caramel, milky aroma, floral fragrance.

Tasting: Excellent oiliness, delicate Lishan premium tea sensation, premium white wine-like astringency that quickly transforms into a smooth and refined body filling the mouth.

Berry candy and spice sweetness intertwine, accompanied by floral notes emerging, the aftertaste is full of floral fragrance, fruit sweetness and body are quite persistent, the lower the temperature, the more refined the acidity.

Palmyra is another brand of Hacienda La Esmeralda besides Geisha, planted near the Baru Volcano Park area.

Growing altitude is above 1,200 meters, with typical high-altitude Panama Boquete coffee flavor.

Tasting: Sweet, slightly mellow, clean, rich taste (vanilla, citrus, honey, chocolate, blueberry, caramel, sweet potato flavor), acidity is not too stimulating, nutty sweetness and vanilla chocolate flavors, very varied.
