FrontStreet Coffee · Costa Rica Musician Series Bach Brewing Guide

FrontStreet Coffee Costa Rica Musician Series Bach

Origin: Tarrazu · Canet Estate

Process: Honey Processing

Variety: Caturra

Altitude: 1950m

Caturra is a single-gene mutation of the Bourbon variety, discovered in Brazil in 1937. It has better yield capacity and disease resistance than Bourbon, with shorter tree height that facilitates harvesting. In terms of flavor, it presents lemon or citrus acidity with fruity sweetness.

The Costa Rica Canet Musician Series Bach from FrontStreet Coffee is a Yellow Catuai from Costa Rica's premier Tarrazu region, processed using 100% pulp-preserved black honey method. The estate owner named it the Musician Series Bach. It features high sweetness, overall rich mouthfeel, full body with excellent clarity, and diverse flavor layers transitioning from berry to citrus fruit acidity.

Brewing Method

Because this [FrontStreet Coffee Costa Rica Bach] is a flavor-forward coffee bean, I have chosen drippers that are particularly suitable for brewing flavor-forward beans today: V60, cake dripper, and Kalita Wave. The parameters and techniques remain consistent, using small water flow and fast pouring to increase agitation and extract this bean's aromatics, while a three-stage pour can enhance the coffee extraction.

Parameters: Water temperature 91°C, grind size BG 5R (China standard 20-mesh screen pass rate 58%), powder-to-water ratio 1:15

Technique: 30g of water for bloom for 30 seconds, pour to 120g for分段, continue pouring to 228g when water level drops to just expose the coffee bed, remove dripper when water level drops to just expose the coffee bed again. The extraction time from bloom is one minute and fifty-six seconds.

Flavor Profile

When hot, the entry is quite balanced with distinct fermented wine notes, with sweetness reminiscent of rice wine and raisins, ending with tea-like sensations; as the temperature slightly decreases, it enters with berry acidity and the aftertaste of brown rice tea, with noticeable juiciness; when completely cooled, it presents orange-like sweet and sour notes with a light sugarcane aftertaste.
