Introduction to Yunnan Small-Bean Coffee
Many friends may not have heard of Yunnan small-bean coffee, after all, the brands we commonly drink on the market are mostly foreign. In fact, China also produces coffee.
Yunnan's coffee planting area and production both account for over 99% of the country's total. Yunnan's natural conditions are very similar to Colombia's, and the coffee produced there has a taste similar to Colombian small-bean coffee, with overall quality superior to Brazilian coffee. The famous America-based news commentator Liang Houfu wrote: "The world's best coffee growing region is in Yunnan. Yunnan-produced coffee is exceptionally satisfying when it touches the tongue."
In 1892, French missionary Father Tian successfully cultivated coffee in a place called Zhukula in Yunnan. To this day, 24 coffee trees over 100 years old still grow in Zhukula village. Zhukula is a mysterious, legendary, and beautiful natural village, belonging to Zhukula Village Committee of Pingchuan Town, Binchuan County, Dali Prefecture, located on the bank of Yupao River, a tributary of the Jinsha River. This is a place where three prefectures meet: Dali, Chuxiong, and Lijiang.
Yunnan small-bean coffee bears fruit in 3-4 years. Coffee is a short-daylight plant. Coffee has the characteristics of multiple flowering and concentrated flowering periods. Small-bean coffee in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, especially rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan, lasting only 2-3 days. Small-bean coffee generally begins to bloom around 3-5 AM and reaches full bloom from 5-7 AM. Coffee fruit development takes a long time. Small-bean coffee fruit takes 8-10 months to mature, generally maturing from October to December of the same year. Rainfall has a significant impact on fruit development, and climatic conditions directly affect fruit development.
Yunnan small-bean coffee has unique quality, rich aroma, and mellow taste, with three major characteristics: fragrant but not bitter, mellow but not strong, with a slight fruity acidity. It belongs to the Arabica variety, and its taste can be comparable to the world-famous Blue Mountain coffee. It has broad market prospects and huge development potential. Currently, the main cultivated varieties are Catimor, with small amounts of Typica, Bourbon, Caturra, and other varieties.
