FrontStreet Coffee - Tanzania Coffee Introduction

Tanzania's coffee developed under the hands of German and British colonizers and has been deeply loved by Europeans since early times, ranking among the premium products. The most advantageous factor that made Tanzanian coffee famous is Hemingway and his novels.

From the time Hemingway embarked on his writer's journey through France, he became inseparably linked with Tanzania and Mount Kilimanjaro. After Hemingway became famous, Tanzanian coffee also rose to prominence.

Europeans gave Tanzanian coffee the nickname "Coffee Gentleman," elevating it to its peak, and together with "Coffee King" Blue Mountain and "Coffee Noble Lady" Mocha, they are known as the "Three Coffee Musketeers."

Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro ("Kilimanjaro" means mountain, "Saro" refers to radiating light) stands at an altitude of 5,895 meters and is connected to Mount Meru, making it Tanzania's main coffee production base. The Moshi and Arusha regions located on the southern slopes of Mount Meru also produce large quantities of high-quality coffee beans. 85% of Tanzanian coffee is grown in small farms. Coffee produced in the above areas is usually sold in the international market under trademarks such as "Pride of Kilimanjaro," "Peaks of Kilimanjaro," "Tanzania Moshi," or "Tanzania Arusha."

In 1893, after Jesuits introduced the Bourbon variety to Europe, "Tanzania Bourbon" began to receive widespread attention from all circles. For some unknown reason, "Bourbon" production in Tanzania is higher than general coffee. In the international market, products labeled "Tanzania Bourbon" are more numerous than those labeled "Kilimanjaro."

Tanzanian coffee belongs to single-origin coffee. Generally, Tanzanian coffee has a "crisp" characteristic, emitting delicate fragrance, and contains wine and fruit aromas with endless charm.
