FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Colombian Narino Coffee

Colombian Narino

Colombian Narino coffee is cherished by connoisseurs for its beautifully balanced, delicate profile: a clean cup rich with apricot, grapefruit, and toffee. The coffee comes from Narino province in Colombia. Unlike Brazil, Colombia need not worry about frost damage. The country boasts roughly 2.7 billion coffee trees, 66% of them grown with modern methods on plantations and the rest on traditionally managed small farms.

Narino sits close to the equator at about 1° north latitude, with abundant sunshine year-round. Most of its coffee grows above 1,600 meters, and snow-capped peaks are not uncommon within the province. Rugged mountains and long, steep slopes create diverse warm microclimates: warm, moist air rising from the valleys shields the high-altitude plantations from frost, making coffee cultivation possible even at 2,300 meters.

Volcanic soil supplies abundant nutrients, and Colombia is renowned for high-altitude cultivation. The lower north-central regions grow mostly commercial beans, while the central-south focuses on specialty coffee—Narino among the most prominent areas. Colombian beans are classified into more than 200 grades, with Supremo the highest and Excelso next; only Supremo beans of 18/64 inch or larger diameter qualify as premium specialty coffee.

Narino is one of the most famous specialty growing areas. Its name is sometimes transliterated differently in other languages, but "Narino" is the form used in the coffee world. Its flavor is beautifully balanced and delicate—clean yet rich with apricot, grapefruit, and toffee—deeply beloved by connoisseurs. And Narino coffee is indeed of Supremo-grade quality.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation

FrontStreet Brazil Cerrado Red Bourbon

As the world's largest coffee producer, Brazil offers an enormous variety, and its beans carry moderate acidity with a balance of sweetness, bitterness, and body that suits medium roasting perfectly—the result fills the air with nut aroma, tastes mellow, and keeps a light acidity, working as a single origin or a blend component. If you only want a first taste of Brazil, FrontStreet's pulped-natural Cerrado is the classic pick: Red Bourbon from a region famous for quality, roasted medium to reveal cream, toasted bread, caramel, and hazelnut aromas in a round, smooth cup—no sourness, just a trace of bitterness. It brews beautifully by pour-over and is equally at home in a moka pot, as espresso SOE, in a siphon, or a French press.

FrontStreet Brazil Queen Estate Yellow Bourbon

FrontStreet's other Brazilian single origin, Queen Estate, comes from Mogiana near southern Minas, where fertile red volcanic soil nourishes the cherries into full, generous aroma. A mix of traditional farmsteads and modern, standardized operations has lifted local quality dramatically. The estate's rare Yellow Bourbon—a natural mutation of Red Bourbon—gives a cleaner fruit character; brewed by pour-over, moka pot, or home machine, it shows a sugarcane sweetness no other origin can match, along with fruit and chocolate notes.

FrontStreet Espresso Blend Series

Low acidity, balance, and friendly pricing make Brazilian coffee a first choice for premium espresso recipes. FrontStreet's crema-rich Classic Blend, nut-forward Specialty Blend, well-balanced Black Cocoa Blend beloved by baristas, and café-ready Commercial Blend all contain Brazilian beans: beyond chocolate and cream aromatics, Brazil contributes gentle acidity and bitterness and a steady, even tone that keeps espresso extraction consistent.
