Introduction to FrontStreet Coffee - Colombia Narino Coffee

Narino is located in southern Colombia, bordering Ecuador to the west, and is one of the three major coffee-producing regions in southern Colombia. It has long been known for producing high-quality coffee with flavor profiles characterized by rich fruit acidity, good sweetness, medium body, and prominent nutty characteristics. Due to Narino's unique geographical environment—proximity to the equator and high mountain terrain—the average cultivation altitude in Narino is relatively high, reaching around 2,000 meters. The higher altitude allows coffee plants to accumulate more sugars during their growth cycle. These sugars and organic acids ultimately form the unique acidity and sweetness of coffee from this region.

The term "Narino" is actually a phonetic translation of the Narino region in Colombia. All coffee produced from this region can be called Narino coffee. However, some coffees from the Narino region that have already established their own reputation may abandon the overly general term "Narino" and appear on the market under their own brand names.

For example, Model Student Coffee from the Narino province is carefully selected from specific small estates or farms in the Narino region. It involves manual selection of the highest quality raw coffee beans at the Supremo grade. Due to these strict screening mechanisms, Model Student Coffee has an annual production of only about 6,000 bags of coffee, accounting for only about 4% of the Narino region's production (the entire Narino province produces approximately 150,000 bags of coffee annually). These coffee beans represent the absolute best of the Narino region. The processing is strictly supervised by La Minita's "Costa Rican European Preparation standards," ensuring excellent quality consistency.
