FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Three Major Coffee Origins
Coffee is divided into three major regions: Latin America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Latin America
Its coffee growing regions include countries in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Latin American coffees often have balanced flavors of cocoa or nuts, with refreshing and crisp acidity.
Guatemala's coffee regions include the Acatenango Valley, Antigua Coffee, ancient Atitlán, Cobán Rainforest, Fraijanes Plateau, Huehuetenango Highlands, Nuevo Oriente, and San Marcos Volcano.
The name "Guatemala" in the Mayan-Toltec language means "land of dense forests." High altitude, mild climate, cool night temperatures, ample sunlight, and periodic rainy and dry seasons are important factors ensuring consistent coffee flavor in this region. The area has numerous active volcanoes, and the soil is rich in minerals, which greatly contributes to Guatemala's production of high-quality coffee beans.
Africa
Africa is the homeland of specialty coffee, establishing the standard for high-quality coffee. Most African coffees are rich and juicy, with flavors of floral and citrus notes, berry fragrances, and spice aromas.
Ethiopia is the cultural heartland. Its coffee regions include Harar, Yirgacheffe, and Sidamo.
Coffees from this country typically have unique aromas and fruit characteristics, along with exceptional fragrance. High altitude, ancient trees, and Ethiopians' reverence for coffee all contribute to the uniqueness of this coffee's flavor. As is well known, Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and its potential continues to attract the world, waiting for us to discover its wonders.
Asia/Pacific
Its coffee regions include the Indonesian archipelago, East Timor, South Asia, and Papua New Guinea. Often processed using the "semi-washed" method, Asia-Pacific coffees are full-bodied, sweet, and smooth, with herbal and earthy aromas.
The Indonesian archipelago includes Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Papua New Guinea, and Timor.
Sturdy bamboo trees are scattered throughout the forests, along with rice paddies, stilt houses, dense jungles, and tigers. The fragrance of cloves and various spices permeates the air. Perfect sloping terrain, mild tropical climate, cool highland nights, and captivating people. This is a very diverse and special country.
